You Don't Know Me – (Chapter: Just Answer The Question)

“I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.” I say and wait for her to speak.

“I’m sure you’ve heard something about me. So just tell me.” She says with a little attitude.

“Fine, I heard that you got pregnant and dropped out of school. But I want to know from you if it’s true.”

“If I tell you that it’s true and that they’re my kids? I had Jonathan a year after Briana what would you say.” She asks her voice going in and out.

“I don’t know. Are they yours?” I ask quietly, I never gave thought to them actually being hers.

“No, and I didn’t get pregnant and drop out. That’s just some shit people made up because they thought it was funny.” She says as I get more comfortable in my seat.

“Why couldn’t you just say that?” I say a little up set that she didn’t just tell me that.

“I don’t know I guess I want to know what you would say.” She says.

“Ok.” I say not knowing what to say to that. “You still didn’t tell me how you’re related though.” I say going back to how this conversation got started.

“Why do you want to know? I told you they’re not mine. How we’re related has nothing to do with you and me.” She says with a little attitude.

“Fine, I don’t care.” I say thinking about hanging up the phone on her. She’s back to being a bitch. I want to ask her what’s going on between us, but I probably want get a straight answer about that either. Plus I want that conversation to be had in person.

“Spencer?” I don’t answer. “Spencer?” She says a little louder in the phone, I ignore her again. “Spencer, I can hear you breathing. Say something.” She talks in her regular voice now.

“Why? All you’re going to do is question it or ignore it and move on.” I lay my forehead on the table.

“No, I’m not. I’m sorry.” She’s quiet for a second. “They’re my niece and nephew, my sister’s kids.” Why in the hell couldn’t she say that in the beginning when I asked who they were?

“God, why do you have to make everything so difficult?” I say frustrated.

“I’m sorry. I don’t like telling my business.” She says and I just listen to her breath not wanting to talk. “Are you mad?” She asks.

“No.” I say simply because I’m not. We’re quiet for about five minutes when I hear another girl’s voice in the background and then I hear someone say Sage. I thought they’re not talking anymore, isn’t that what she told me. If that’s true there’s no reason for her to be over her house at ten something.

“Is that Sage?” I ask listening to Ashley move around. “Ashley?”

“Can I call you back?” She says into the phone. “I’ll call you tomorrow.” She says and hangs up before I can say anything.

I know we’re not together but the fact that she hung up on me, after her ex girlfriend might be over her house right now, pisses me off. I really got to figure out what we are to each other and why she had to get off the phone after that girls voice was heard. I just hope Ashley isn’t lying to me about her and Sage.
