Zadie and Arthur sat next to each other in the surgical center’s waiting room. “Do you want to tell me what happened?” She looked at Arthur wincing at the purple bruises surrounding his neck. He slowly looked up and they locked eyes for a moment. Zadie felt her own eyes tearing as she watched Arthur begin to brake down. She pulled him close and held him as he sobbed.

“Ben, I think it would be best if you went home for the night. This is a hospital for Christsake!” Michael rubbed his temples, “I should suspend you immediately, we both know that, but I understand why you were so upset. This situation cannot be easy for you, but the bottom line is that until Paula wakes up, her husband decides who can see her and right now, he has decided that you can’t.” Ben shook his head angrily, “Mike you don’t understand…I love her…I need to know her condition..” Michael held his hand up, “Ben, I’ve already spoken with Cynthia, if there is any change in Paula’s condition you will be notified immediately. That’s all I can do…and really that’s more than I should do. Go home.” Ben sullenly watched as Dr. Marlin walked away, his heart aching.

Spencer watched the door anxiously for a few minutes, prepared for yelling, arguing, or anything that could cause Ashley to immediately have to leave Christine’s room. She smiled to herself when ten whole minutes had past. ‘At least they’re talking.’ She headed back over to Glen’s room. She had just enough time to check in on her brother before visitation hours started for her mom.

Spencer peeked through the window of Glen’s room and saw that both of her brothers appeared to be sleeping. She tiptoed into the room, closing the door silently. She looked around the room and realized that Clay had used both chairs to make his bed, so she sat on the window sill, hugging her legs close to her chest. “Spence?” Startled, Spencer looked over at the bed and saw that Glen had turned his head to face her. “I thought you were asleep”, she whispered. “Yeah, I’ve been trying to…I guess I just have a lot on my mind.” They looked at each other and both began speaking at the same time, “I’m sorry…”.
