We Were Just Meant To Be – (Chapter: 16 – Two steps forward, One step back.)

You wanted it, you wanted it don’t, lie to me.
Don’t act like I wanted it more.
You wanted it, you wanted it, don’t cry to me.
It’s sad that we’d settle the score,
It’s sad that I evened the score once and for all.
Once and for all, once and for all.

As the weeks passed Spencer and I still spent the same amount of time together, what happened didn’t change that, but there was this wall between us that she’d put up and I knew she was trying to keep me at a safe distance. I couldn’t help but think I’d ruined everything, but I know that can’t be the case because we were in this together, it was always together.

I’d been driving myself crazy with thoughts of Spencer, going to bed and replaying that kiss over and over again in my head until I fell asleep. But one night one of my friends dragged me to a party where I ended up meeting a guy, Miles is his name, he’s tall with blonde hair and blue eyes, imagine that, He’s a really sweet and caring guy and he pursued until I really couldn’t refuse to go out with him. I’ve been dating him for a few weeks and I’m really getting along with him, but there’s just not that spark there, he feels more like a friend to me, which just adds to the awkwardness I feel when he kisses me. After my first date with him I went straight to Spencer’s because she was expecting me to.

“How was it?” She asked as I stepped into her room.

“It was good, he’s a nice guy.”

“Did you kiss him?” She asks with a quiet voice.

“Well umm yeah.” I say, and at this she turns away from me and focuses her attention back on her computer screen, not another word said about my date.

They’ve met each other a few times and he thinks she’s really cool, and he understands that she’s really important to me, being my best friend and all. She, however, agrees that he’s a nice guy, but always has something trivial to complain about him.

“He touches you too much.” or “I didn’t like what he was wearing.” Are a couple of her favourites. He even came round to her house to fix her computer for her one day and she decided she’d tell me that “he smells funny”. “He does not smell bad, Spence.” I told her. “No, not bad, just funny.” Where was she getting this from? And how can she even begin to try and nit pick things about him when he’s helping her out? I’d probably be angry about it if I cared more about him, but how could I even be angry at Spencer over some guy that I’ve just started dating?

Miles helped divert my thoughts away from Spencer for a while, until a huge birthday party came up that we all had to go to, Miles and Spencer included.
