Twilight – 18 years later
“Edward?” I whispered as I closed my door. It felt like old times.
“Bella,” Edward said to let me know he was there. Once we found each other it was much more like old times as our lips touched.
Once our lips came apart that was when the questions began.
“Who’s Anthony?” I asked.
“He’s my brother.” Edward said.
“Funny, the only brothers I remember you having sixteen years ago were Emmet and Jasper. What, did Alice have a sex change and change her name to Anthony?” I asked.
Edward almost laughed, “Anthony joined out coven two years ago though he’s not a new vampire. We think he’s been a vampire for at least 20 years.”
“You think?” I asked.
“There’s things in his past that is unknown. Things he can’t even remember.” Edward said.
“But can’t you get into his mind? I mean read it?” I asked.
Edward sighed, “I’ve tried, but nothing pre-vampire.”
“Does this bother you?” I asked.
“It bothers me when I cannot read anyone’s mind.” Edward said as he pressed his cold hand against the side of my face, “I wish I could read yours right now. To know what you have thought about every day since I left.”
I leaned closer into his hand, “There has not been a day that I have not thought of you.”
Edward’s eyes looked up towards my bedroom door, “Ney is coming.”
Edward was right. Less than a second later Ney was knocking on my door.
“Mom?” Ney asked as she knocked.
“Come in.” I answered. Edward had ducked out the window.
“Supper is done.” Ney said.
“Ok, I’ll be down in a minute.”
“Mom, is everything all right?” Ney asked.
“Yeah, everything is fine.” I said. I guess my expression on my face said otherwise. I was worried that if I went downstairs to eat, Edward would be gone for good this time. Ney looked me in the eyes just once and then nodded. As soon as she closed the door I jumped to my feet to the window. “Edward” I called.
Edward was right there, looking like the beautiful angel as he always did. “Go eat.” He said, “After dinner Ney is going to ask you about her father. Tell her what she wants to know. When you do, I’ll be listening.”
