    Chapter 1

    New Home

The plane skidded to a stop. We were at Seattle airport. I was finally going to go to a normal school. Maybe have normal friends.

Charlie, my dad, worked in an International Business Administration. This meant we had to travel a lot and ever since my mom died my dad was never the same. Renne was a very bright person and my best friend too. Charlie wasn’t as open anymore. Not that he really was before. He put all his time into work. He had a very demanding job but it paid a lot so I had to be constantly homeschooled. At seventeen that meant I didn’t really get much time for friends or a boyfriend for that matter. I wasn’t bad looking or anything but I had nothing amazing to offer either. I had long, brown, wavy hair and big, brown eyes. I was good enough for me and I guess that was okay. Charlie had finally found a post that wouldn’t require traveling. So in about two weeks I was starting my junior year at Forks High.

The pilot came over the intercom to tell us how pleasant the flight had been and gave permission to unfasten our seatbelts. Charlie and I got carried our bags to leave but my clumsiness just couldn’t wait and I tripped over a peanut wrapper on the floor. Charlie dropped the bags and got to me just in time.

“My same old Bella,” said Charlie as he set me up.

    “Thanks dad,” I replied glumly.

We got out of the first class cabin and headed to the baggage claim. I spotted some boys my age staring at me. It was probably because I was too pale or something. Back in Phoenix whenever I went out everyone around me had beautiful tans but I was like a ghost compared to them. Just another thing to add to my list of reasons I was normal.

Once we gathered our bags Charlie and I headed out. For some reason Charlie looked happier than usual. When I asked him he just brushed it off as being excited for finally getting a job in one place. We had decided to move to a town called Forks. It was supposed to be small and humble. Unfortunately, there wouldn’t be much sun, but I could live with that. I really wanted to graduate in a normal school.
