Spencer’s POV

                Ashley and I caught the next plane out and left Erica and Hugh there, we just wanted to get home. We had barely had time to talk in all the rush and now that I was sitting beside her on the red-eye from Rome to New York I could feel the tension. She knew that I hadn’t completely forgiven her and I knew that she was still having doubts about us. We had been on the plane for nearly an hour without talking except for simple observations and it was killing me. I could see Ashley searching for something to say as the rest of first class slept around us. Finally I did the only thing that I could think of and reached over to entwine our fingers. I heard Ashley exhale and I looked up in time to see a large smile cross over her face, her nose crinkling in the way that made my knees weak. It was as if the tension had been lifted as she leaned over and kissed me so gently that I barely even felt her lips. My hands came up to rest on either side of her face, my thumbs brushing her jaw and my palms flat out over her neck.

                Neither of us tried to deepen the kiss because it was perfect the way that it was. Passion coursing through the barely there touch of her lips on mine. God, even a peck could make me want her so desperately that I could barely breathe. She smiled slightly against my lips as if she could read my thoughts and she pulled away to lay a kiss on my forehead. She pulled the arm that separated the two seats up and beckoned me over and after a moment of hesitation I went willingly enough, curling into her body and resting my head right above where her heart was. My God she was right; her heart thudding ever so gently against where my ear rested was the most relaxing sound I’d ever heard. I was soon drifting off while she threaded her fingers through my hair, humming softly near my ear.

                Ashley’s POV

                Spencer had been awake for nearly thirty minutes but we hadn’t moved; content to just lie together. I knew that eventually we had to talk and I wasn’t looking forward to that but before we got to all of the unpleasantness I had to know something. I was praying desperately that it wouldn’t ruin the moment as I continued to gently play with her hair while her breath played lightly on my collar bone.
