    Free Will?

     

    Ashley startled Paula by hugging her and kissing her cheek, “I’m really happy you’re here with us.” Paula swallowed hard past the lump that suddenly appeared in her throat. Blinking back tears, she stood, bending to kiss her daughter’s forehead, “Honey, I’m going to let Ash take over now.” She gently pushed Spencer’s hair back with her thumb, her voice broke, “I just love you so much.” Spencer nodded, her tears starting to fall again. She pulled her mother into another teary embrace, laughing, “Oh my God, I feel like I’m moving to Europe or something!” Paula giggled, “Okay, well maybe we’re being a little dramatic.” She looked at Ashley, “Take care of my little girl.” Ashley nodded, her voice soft, “I always have Paula…always.” Paula nodded, surprising Ashley with a hug. Both women watched Paula walk towards the door. She turned, smiling at her only daughter just looking, unable to say anything. She finally waved and shut the door quietly, leaving Ashley and Spencer alone.

    “Hey sexy!” Spencer frowned, looking down at her body, “I don’t feel very sexy right now Ash.” She sat down on the bed beside her wife, letting Spencer’s head rest against her chest, “I’ve never seen you look more beautiful.” Spencer smiled, holding up her hand. Ashley pushed her hand against her wife’s letting their fingers intertwine, she whispered, “I remember the first time you said that to me.” She pushed her head back into Ashley’s chest, tilting up so that she was staring into her wife’s chocolate eye, “Do you?” Ashley nodded, pressing her face into Spencer’s hair, she whispered back, “I remember everything about that time…everything.”

    “Ashley, this isn’t working. One of us has to say it. One of us has to be the strong one here, no matter how much it hurts. I just can’t keep doing this with you. You need to make a decision today, right now, with me. What do you want to do?” Ashley closed her eyes, trying to block out the hurt that filled Spencer’s hoarse, ragged voice. She whispered, “I don’t know Spence…I just need a little more time…I’m trying…” Spencer cut her off, “You’ve had the time, Ash…all the time in the fucking world!” Ashley finally looked up, her chest burning, her mouth unable to form the words in her heart. Spencer left her there, mouth gaping, unable to breathe. Ashley watched her leave, walking slowly, obviously waiting for some sign some indication that Ashley wanted her to turn around, to stay in her life, but in the end there was only silence.

    1. wow…you had me at where’s my wife as well. I know this is going to be an awesome story because you are writing it. I like the way you interwinded the back story along with the current time…way to go! You are incrediable and you already know I think that! love you sweetie….

    3. What got me and I’m sure everyone else interested is this line: “My wife, Spencer Davies is having a baby, where is she?” But you probably knew that anyway. What’s even more interesting is the fact that not many other people have tried that kind of storyline yet. This story seems to have a lot of potential and I really like it. Post more soon please.
