The Sound of Settling – (Chapter: home)

"I can’t believe both my girls are home!" He said excitedly looking at the both of us. " Well, okay! You two get settled……and i’ll be back"

"Where are you going?? I just got here" Spencer inquired.

" To the store, I need to get some groceries for tonight. It’s not that often that I have company, so I want to make something special for dinner." We laughed at him. I never realized how lonely he must get. After the divorce Clay, Glenn, and Spencer went off to college. It must have been hell loosing your family all at once.

"So i’ll see you kids later." He said grabbing his keys and walking out the door.

    "Bye!!" We said in unison.

" I love your dad, Spence." I said grinning.

"Ya he’s a riot…. So you want a beer? We technically haven’t celebrated my homecoming yet." She smiled innocently.

" Two minutes alone in your house, and you’re already trying to get me wasted" I say jokingly. " What happened to the sweet and innocent girl I once knew?"

" Hmmmm, if I remember correctly , she was corrupted by a teenage lesbian freak!! " She chortled, raising an eyebrow.

" Don’t do that Spence, you know I love it when you talk dirty." I reply huskily.

" Shall we, then Ms. Davies" She says reaching out for my hand.

" Bring on the booze, baby!!" She takes my hand in hers as we walk into the kitchen. She let’s go momentarily and begins rummaging throught the fridge.

"You need a little help there?" I ask, watching her as she piles random jars and containers in her arms. She strains to reach the back of the fridge.

" Ash, you unwittingly imply that I’m clumsy." She says, her right hand gripping two bottles of Corona, her left filled with random junk.

"No, I just know you well enough to know that balance and coordination are not one of your many talents" I say cockily leaning back against the counter.

" I would like you to know Ash, that I’ve got moves and talents you’ve never seen." She walks over to me smiling seductively, her eyes focused on balancing the containers in her left hand. She’s too engrossed in her task that she doesn’t see her purse laying in her path, and as my lips part in warning, she trips over it, managing to steady herself, but dropping the contents of the fridge onto the floor.
