The pick-up & the fall down. – (Chapter: The Reminder.)
Ashley Davies looked up and down the empty school corridor and shook her head in regret. Sighing loudly she continued down the corridor until she reached a door labeled ‘Administration.’ Eight years on and it looked exactly like it had when she was in her senior grade. King High hadn’t changed at all. But that said, neither had Ashley really.
Opening the door she looked around to find an elderly secretary, who pointed her towards the principal’s office, which Ashley found with no trouble, having been very familiar with it during her school years. Knocking on the door, she patiently waited until she was summoned inside.
"Well if it isn’t Ashley Davis… King High’s former rebel…" Ashley smiled weakly at Principal Myers. He had been her math’s teacher for a year or two, and from what Ashley could recall, got the position of principal less than a year ago. He was a jerk, a big one. And was now Ashley’s boss.
"Mr Mye… Principal Myers, It’s good to see you again," Ashley lied, taking a seat opposite Myers. "I can’t tell you how grateful I am that you accepted my application."
"Don’t thank me Ashley, in all honest I didn’t think you could handle the job." He followed his statement with his weasel-like laugh, the one that countless students had made fun of over the years. Ashley cringed at the sound and breathed deeply in an attempt to restrain herself from talking back. "But some of the other teachers here felt your… talents… would be of some use in the music department, and considering the lack of staff this year, I really had no other option."
"Well… thank you anyway," Ashley replied. Ok so maybe she had changed a little from when she was at school. She had learnt to hold her tongue at the best of times, had become quite level-headed. She had even bothered applying herself to her studies at University, and although she wouldn’t admit it, was a very quick and intelligent individual. "I really do appreciate it. Would you like me to make my way to the Music Department?"
"Do you remember the way?" Myers asked, earning a nod from Ashley. He shrugged and looked back to his computer. "Then on your way Davies. I’ll catch up with you during the week just to touch base."
