The Perfect Girl – (Chapter: "A Series of Fortunate Events…" Pt. 2)
“Well…at least Ashley didn’t totally freak out.” Said Chelsea, taking a bite from her sandwich during lunch after Spencer told her what had happened. “Yeah, but…she didn’t even acknowledge my existence this morning…she wasn’t even looking when I said hi to her in the halls…” Spencer mumbled into her Jell-O. “That’s why you say hi to people when they’re looking, Spence. Don’t take it seriously. I’m sure Ashley’ll smile and say hi to you next time around and you’re going to be back to walking around drooling about her, completely brainless after.” “I wish there was a way to make her notice me.” Spencer groaned. “What do you mean notice you? She knows you exist- she stayed over at your house last night!” “Well, I mean…make her be my friend or something!” Chelsea raised an eyebrow. “I don’t think you should try to entangle yourself in Ashley Davies’ love life, just to warn you as a friend. We all know that as nice as Ashley is, she’s a total jerk to everyone she dates; not to mention she’s notorious for only wanting to get into peoples’ pants, male or female.”
“Yeah Chelsea, but…Ashley’s-” Spencer stopped short when she saw Ashley get up with a crowd of juniors on a lunch table and yell through a bullhorn, “HEY EVERYONE; SADIES IS THIS FRIDAY NIGHT- SO LADIES ASK YOUR GUYS…or girls…NOW!” The junior class roared and then posted up banners all over the quad since they were the ones holding the dance. Spencer sighed and stared dreamily after Ashley, who was going around with her friends to ask people whether they were going to the dance or not. Ashley was trying to sweet talk the people who weren’t planning to go into attending by using her smooth voice and giving them that seductive smile. Male or female, it didn’t matter what gender you were- nobody could resist the Ashley charm. Chelsea prodded Spencer a bit to try to bring her out of her dream world. “You might want to wipe up that drool, Spence, because here she comes.” “Huh? WHAT?” Spencer said, snapping out of her trance. She looked up to see Ashley’s million watt smile radiating down on her. “So…are you goin’ to Sadies, Spence?” Ashley asked, her warm, brown eyes staring straight into Spencer’s. Spencer looked away, afraid that Ashley would be able to somehow read her thoughts and tell how badly she wanted her. “Um…I don’t have a date.” She muttered, looking down. “Well you still have time to ask someone.” Ashley replied, grinning at her. “Just work up the nerve to ask someone, Spence. I promise you Sadies is going to be amazing this year. I’m going to personally play at the end of the dance with my band. I’m sure whoever you ask won’t be able to turn you down.” Ashley winked at her and then moved on to a group of seniors who were calling her over. Her friends asked her in low voices why she had been talking to Spencer Carlin of all people. “Give her some slack, you guys. She’s not that bad; she’s pretty nice.” Ashley said. “BECAUSE SHE LIKES YOU, ASHLEY!” Madison snapped. “Ugh. I don’t think so, Madison. You don’t even know her personally.” Ashley replied, shaking her friends off to go talk to the seniors. Spencer stared after Ashley. She was pretty sure nobody had asked Ashley to Sadies yet…
