The College Life – (Chapter: Chapter 22: The (After) Life of the Party)

I search the room and luckily find a table that’s near the small stage. While I’m waiting for Ashley to return, I see a baby grand piano with a microphone holstered up in position. I check my watch to see that Ashley’s been in the bathroom for quite some time now. I debate going in to check on her to see if everything’s okay but I notice there are people lined all along the wall and I don’t want to risk losing this seat.

All of sudden I see the lights dim lower around the small café and the lights directed towards the stage become brighter and some people in the crowd begin to clap and cheer in excitement. I see a young man walk onto the stage and grab the microphone on the stand positioned with the piano.

“Good evening everyone!” The man greets the crowd. “I’m so happy to see so many people at tonight’s open mic night. Tonight we have a very special guest that I’m sure most, if not all, of you know.” I’m still not quite sure of whom the ‘special guest’ is, but Ashley’s lack of presence is proving to be a little suspicious, and a little smirk crawls on my face in anticipation of what she has planned and I feel the light bulb in my head grow brighter. “We are very lucky to have her here tonight” the M.C. went on, “Please help me in giving her a very warm welcome. Miss Ashley Davies!”

The crowd roared in applause, with some people howling their screams when Ashley walked onto the stage. I begin to smile uncontrollably as I see my girl walk on stage. Listen to me, my girl. We aren’t even official but I can’t help but feel like, in a way, she is my girl. If only I could break down that wall she has built up and prove to her that love does exist and that I’m capable of giving her everything she would ever want and need. I figure all I can do is try and hope for the best.

As she walks out on stage, her eyes are transfixed on mine and I can’t get over how beautiful she looks. She takes the microphone out of the M.C.’s hand and sits down at the piano and adjusts the microphone into the stand so she can easily speak into it.
