“Well that’s not how things are going to be. Spencer’s staying here and you’re leaving so let’s go.” I can tell Ashley’s becoming impatient. When Jenny becomes uncooperative again then Ashley loses her cool. “Oh my God Jenny, why do you have to be so fucking difficult? Would you leave already?! I don’t want to see you anymore, I’m seeing Spencer now and that’s it. Game over for you.”

With that, Jenny lowers her head showing defeat. “Fine, but this won’t be the last you see of me.” She promises.

Without missing a beat Ashley responds. “It better be because I won’t be so nice next time if you try to pull this shit again.” The image of what she did to Carmen comes to mind and that’s the last thing I want to happen again.

“Fine. Bye Ashley.” Jenny turns to leave but she’s not sober enough yet to keep her balance. Out of instinct, Ashley and I step in to help her down the stairs. Ashley gave her a water bottle from inside of her apartment and after downing that she’s seemed to sober up a bit by the time we got to the front door. Thankfully Ashley had called a friend of hers to come pick her up so we knew she’d be safe. We might not like her but that doesn’t mean we want her dead.

“I’m sorry for tonight.” Jenny says before she walks outside.

Ashley nods her acceptance. “It’s okay.” She says in a soft voice.

Jenny nods to Ashley, then to me. I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel bad for her after seeing the hurt and sadness in her eyes. “Goodnight.” She says in a little voice and walks out letting the door close behind her.

Ashley and I watch Jenny get in the passenger side of her friends car. Her friend sees us watching behind the glass door and gives us a little wave. Ashley and I both return her wave with one of our own and she drives off.

“Well tonight’s been… interesting.” I say unsure of what else tonight will bring.

“Yeah. To say the least.” Ashley lets out in a laugh. “You still want to get drunk?” From the tone in her voice I can tell she’s just as desperate as I am.
