The Agent – (Chapter: It was me…)

“Why? Why can’t I stay here? I told you before, I don’t care if I die! I just want to be with my family!” I so badly wanted to tell her that it was her mother who ordered the hit. The words were on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t do it. The looks on the faces of her brothers prevented me. The way her father had his arms wrapped around her mother, the way he protected the family and the way Spencer was willing to die just to spend time with her family. It all prevented me from saying the words that I held on the tip of my tongue, the words that would destroy them all.

I looked at Spencer. She was the perfect daughter. How could her own mother, the person who gave birth to her, want their own flesh and blood dead? And why Spencer? Why not her brothers?

I could hear sirens blaring. They were getting closer. Spencer was still next to me, holding me up. My mind was racing. I had been through worse pain before. I had to work on adrenaline now. I had to ignore the pain coming from every inch of my body. I started breathing heavily taking in as much air as possible. I looked at Spencer and the way she was holding me. I needed to plan my move. I looked back at where the car was parked. The door was still open, the car keys still in the ignition.

Her father was strong. Him and the one brother, they would be my biggest threat. They were close to me, their eyes fixed on me. The mother and the other brother would be fine. He looked more like a science geek. And her, well…God, she was a coward if she needed to hire someone to kill her own daughter instead of doing it herself.

The sirens were close now. I took a few steps back. I breathed in so deep, as if this was my last breath. Oh God, it was now or never. I had to do this. It happened in seconds. I bent down and grabbed Spencer, throwing her over my shoulder, catching them all off guard. I ignored the pain. I started running with her, with them chasing after me. I was close to the car. The brother, he was so fast, he was about to catch us. I was about to pass out from the pain I could see the cops from the corner of my eyes.
