“So your sure you don’t want to go to prom?” I asked Ashley. It was lunch time, and we were both driving back from our favorite Chinese restaurant.

“Yes, I’m sure.” she responded as she parked in her spot and we got out. “Can we stop by your locker real quick, I left a book in it?”

“OK,” I answered confused. She never leaves anything in my locker. When we arrived at the locker I put in the combination and opened the door, revealing two Barbie dolls and A sign asking ‘Will you go to the stupid prom with me?’ “AHLEY! YES I’LL GO TO THE STUPID PROM WITH YOU!” I yelled before kissing her sweetly. This was going to be the best prom ever!

Here we were, at last: Prom! It was everything I could’ve imagined and more. To make it better, Ashley had just celebrated her birthday a few days ago and had received her trust fund. She was now officially a millionaire. The party was great, we danced together, and had punch, we even had our picture taken. Most of the songs were fast songs, but then the last song came, and it was a slow song. I went to find Ashley, who was at the punch table. “May I have this last dance Mrs. Davies?” I asked her.

“You may.” she responded and I led the way over to the dance floor. We danced slowly, but with vigor. However, all good things must come to an end, and this song was no exception. It was time to leave, the dance was over. However, on the way back to the car, my life would change forever.

“Spencer, wait!” I yelled. She was walking slightly faster than I was and I needed to get her to slow down to do this. She slowed to a stop allowing me to catch up.

“What’s up?” she asked. Ohhh boy, this was it, the moment of truth. A proverb once said never put your whole fortune on the line, unless your willing to accept the consequences. I wasn’t willing to accept these consequences, but I went ahead with it anyway.

“Spencer,” I began while formally getting down on one knee. “Our journey has been long, and we have gone through hell, but we’ve come out on the other side together. My love for you burns as strong as the sun itself no matter how young we are. I know that I’m barely 18 and your not even 18, so we could delay it for a long time if we want to. Spencer, will you marry me?” The stunned Spencer stood there with the largest grin I’ve ever seen plastered on her face.

“Ashley!” she said, “I know how young we are, but I want to marry you as soon as I’m 18! Yes, I’ll marry you!” As soon as she said that she wrapped me in a huge hug followed by a passionate kiss. As soon as I pulled away for a breather, it was followed with hundreds of pecks all over my face. Then abruptly she stopped. The smile on her face turned to pure horror.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her.

“I know this place, I’ve been here before. Ashley! Get down!” But it was too late. The bullet’s had already started flying. A hail of gunfire exploded all around us. I heard someone scream near me. It was Spencer! While the gunshots were still flying, I crawled over to where Spencer was laying still. In the distance sirens were going off, someone had already called the police. As Spencer’s eyes closed, I let a single tear fall on her cheek… then she was gone. The bullet’s were still coming though, but I didn’t care. I stood up and with anger ran at the car. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my ribcage, but I kept going. What am I trying to accomplish? I asked myself through the pain. It didn’t matter what I was trying to do though, as two more parts of my body exploded in pain. This was too much and I fell to the ground lifeless.
