Singing Bridges (We All Fall) – (Chapter: You're so unpredictable and I'm so typical)

The doctors watched Mrs. C try to talk Ashley back to life, but it wasn’t working as though she had hoped.

A nurse walked up and looked at Mrs. C, she nodded her head and the nurse called out “time of death, 11:11 p.m.”

Spencer watched from the small door window as her best friend’s death was announced.

“Please Ash. I’m so sorry. Don’t leave me, please! I wish you could just come back. I’m so so sorry. Please.”

Beep beep beep beep The doctors looked up at the heart monitor. It had a steady pulse going. Mrs. C checked Ashley’s vitals. She was alive, barely.

“Alright, I need a brain surgeon here ASAP! We cannot lose her again!”

Mrs. Carlin walked out of the room as the other doctors went to find a brain surgeon at this hour.

“Spencer, honey?” Mrs. C saw her daughter sit up against a wall with her legs pulled tightly to her chest.

As she got closer to Spencer, Mrs. C could see the tears running down Spencer’s face, and she also caught sight of a little blood on the bottom of her t-shirt.

    I wonder what that’s from?

“Mom, it’s all my fault! I didn’t help her! It’s all my fault she’s dead!”

What is she talking about? Did she have something to do with Ashley? No, of course not.

“Spencer, Ashley’s alive. She’s going to be okay. Don’t worry honey. Everything’s going to be alright.”

Mrs. C watched as Spencer looked up at her mom and saw the truth in her mother’s eyes.

“It doesn’t matter, mom. It’s still my fault; she’ll never forgive me after what happened.”

Spencer got up and walked away from her mother, remembering what had happened just hours earlier…

“Come on Ash! Let’s just take the long way home, pleaseeeeee! I feel like I haven’t seen you in a long time. We can just spend some more time together. Just us.”

Spencer kept pleading and pouting that Ashley just gave in.

“Alright Spence, we can take the long way home.”

Ashley started walking and reached her hand back, taking Spencer’s in it and holding on tightly. Spencer just looked at Ashley and smiled brightly. I can’t believe this is going to happen. Why can’t I just tell her the truth? Tell her to go back?
