Trevor: “What? No, I think-”

Ashley: “Shut up.” I tell him before he can finish. Ms. Peterson thinks before speaking.

Ms. Peterson: “That’s not a bad idea, there are gay couples with children.”

Ashley: “Yes there are, Spencer and I could be that couple.” I say, trying not to sound like I’m begging.

Ms. Peterson: “I don’t see why not.”

Aiden: “So who am I gonna be paired with?!”

Ms. Peterson: “Just swap partners.”

Aiden: “What?!”

Trevor: “Hell no! I’m not gay!”

Ms. Peterson: “It’s just a class assignment, you don’t have to kiss or anything.” She chuckles.

Ashley: “Move it.” I say shoving him aside as I move up and stand next to Spencer and take her hand excitedly.

Ms. Peterson: “I now pronounce you life partners.” She puts s plastic bracelet on Spencer’s wrist, then she puts one on mine. “Here’s your new baby.” She holds the baby out and Spencer takes it then she hands me the car seat and diaper bag. Trevor and Aiden glare at us as we go back to our seats.

Ashley: “So is it a boy or a girl?”

Spencer: “She’s a girl.” She smiles up at me, holding the baby.

Ashley: “What are we gonna name her?” She thinks for a while.

Spencer: “Elizabeth Marie.”

Ashley: “She has two names?” I ask confused.

Spencer: “No silly, Marie is her middle name, like mine.” She chuckles softly. I smile at her and rub the baby’s head.

Ashley: “So who’s last name is she gonna take?”

Spencer: “She can have both of our last names.”

Ashley: “Elizabeth Marie Carlin-Davies.”

Spencer: “I like it.” She smiles at me.

Trevor: “Let’s get this straight, I’m not the bitch in the relationship, you are!” I turn to them, sitting behind us. Aiden’s holding their baby.

Aiden: “I am not! And I’d really appreciate it if you didn’t curse around our baby.” He says in a hushed tone.

Trevor: “It’s not real you idiot!”

Aiden: “You are verbally abusing me, I can’t be in an abusive relationship!” Trevor sighs and puts his head on the desk. I laugh and Spencer shakes her head at them.

Ms. Peterson: “Ok everyone, you’re responsible for your babies. Your bracelets not only simulate rings, but they’re also the keys for your baby. When your baby cries, you have to feed it, burp it, or change it’s diaper. When you change the diaper there’s a sensor in it and the baby will stop crying. When you have to feed or burp the baby just rub the bracelet on the baby’s back or stomach and you’ll hear it beep, then you can proceed to feed or burp it. There’s an extra bracelet attached to the diaper bag incase you leave the baby with a sitter. Our next class is Tuesday, but I want you all to bring the babies in on Monday.” Spencer smiles at me.

Ms. Peterson: “Ok, it’s 2:15, school lets out in a few minutes. You’re baby won’t turn on until 3:00, so you should have enough time to get home and settle in. At the end of this project you will have to write a paper about your significant other and how well they took care of the baby. Ok, that’s all you need to know, for the remainder of the class you can pick clothes out of this box for your baby.” She says. A few people get up and go to get clothes.

Spencer: “I want to pick the clothes out.” She tells me.

Ashley: “Ok.” I say. She hands me the baby. I watch as she excitedly picks out clothes for the baby.

Aiden: “Trevor, you could at least pick out some clothes for Eden.”

Trevor: “That’s not her name, it’s Tara.”

Aiden: “No, it’s Eden Dennison.”

Trevor: “Tara Evans!”

Aiden: “Could you just pick out her clothes?”

Trevor: “No!”

Aiden: “I have to do everything myself.” He mumbles. “Can you at least hold her?!”

Trevor: “Sit her in the car seat.” He snaps, kicking the car seat towards Aiden.

Ashley: “I’ll watcher her for you Aiden.”

Aiden: “Thank you Ashley.” He says to me as he rolls his eyes at Trevor. I chuckle as he sit’s the baby in the car seat and puts it on my desk.

Spencer comes back and puts the clothes she picked out into the diaper bag. I take Elizabeth and put her in the car seat, buckling her safely into it.

Trevor: “Have fun taking care of you love child carpet munchers.”

Spencer: “Thanks, have fun in your gay relationship with Aiden and your baby.” She says politely and his face goes red. I snort out a chuckle.

The bell rings, I take the car seat and Spencer takes the diaper bag and we walk hand in hand to my car.
