    SECRETS – (Chapter: 12)

So Spencer and I are cuddling on my bed, watching TV. I’ve been thinking about what she said about college, and it’s really been bothering me. "Spencer?"

She rubs my arm a little to let me know I have her attention, continuing to watch the TV. "Yeah baby?"

"Well, I was thinking about everything, and I figured maybe instead of looking for an apartment you could just keep living with me." She looks up at me, eyebrows raised, because she knows we’ve already talked about this. "I mean, we’ll be starting college soon anyways, so you’d only have an apartment for like two minutes" I bite my lip looking at her,

She peers up at me for a moment, just looking at me. "Are you sure you’d be okay with that? I’ve already stayed way longer than I should have."

I laugh a little, shaking my head. I lean down giving her a gentle kiss, before pulling away and resting my face in her neck. "Forever would be the only time period long enough to satisfy me."

She grins at me, shrugging. "okay." She goes back to intently watching the TV.

I just watch her for a moment, gathering the courage to ask my next question. "Hey, um, just out of curiousity, where all did you apply for college? I mean, I know you were still debating whether or not to do the whole college thing.."

Spencer shrugs, squeezing my hand. "I applied to  USC, UCLA, NYU, UGA, and a few other smaller eastern schools. I’m kind of hoping for UGA though. They have a really good medical school in Atlanta, so once I finish my core classes I’ll have plenty of options. And I looked at my class load and I should be able to finish my core classes in two years. If I work hard enough."

I nod a little. "So basically there are only two schools that are going to keep you near me, and even then, those aren’t the ones you really want. Wow."

Spencer shrugs. "I guess. Where did you apply?"

I shrug a little. "UCLA. But even then it’s a long shot. It’s not that big of a deal though. I really just want to work on my music."

    She nods slowly. "Oh."

I pull away from her, now completely facing her. "Oh? That’s all you can say?" I grab the remote, shutting off the TV.

She sits up, looking at me. "What else am I supposed to say?"

I just stare at her, slightly angry. "Something other than ‘Oh’. I mean come on Spencer. We only have a few months and then you’re off to college in Georgia, on the complete opposite side of the country. Does the impact that will have on our relationship not bother you?!"

She sighs a little, taking my hand. "Of course it does." She takes a breath, biting her lip. "Look, Ash, I love you. The thing is, college is really important. I can’t make a decision that will affect the rest of my life based on how far away from you it takes me. Yeah, this is going to suck. I know that. I’m dreading this, but it’s still something that I have to do. I don’t want to wake up one morning and regret it."

I look at her. "You’ve actually thought about this alot."

She smiles at me sadly. "How could I not?"

"Does this mean we’re over once you leave?"

She looks down at the bed. "I hope not. I mean if that’s what you want I would understand, but that isn’t something I want to happen."

I nod a little. "Me either. So… we’ll try long distance?"

She  nods, giving me a quick kiss, instantly happier than she was. "Plus, who knows. I might not even get into UGA and I’ll wind up at UCLA."

I pull her into a slow kiss, praying for anything to keep her near me.
