    Ashley has her first flashback.

    Nothing But A Heartache

    Chapter 16

     

     

    Ashley: Aiden what is this?

    Ashley picks up a needle that was laying on Aiden’s desk.

    Aiden: I don’t know, my roommate must have left it here.

    Aiden takes the needle from Ashley’s hand and throws it away.

    Ashley: You’re lying Aiden. (pause) What are you doing now Aiden? Heroin?

    Aiden: (irritated) I told you it wasn’t mine!

    Ashley: God damn it Aiden, can’t you see what these drugs are doing to you?!

    Aiden: Stay out of it Ashley!

    Ashley: Stay out of it?! Aiden you need help!

    Aiden: I don’t need help Ashley! Wake up!

    Ashley: What?

    Aiden: I said wake up!

    Aiden quickly picks up a textbook from the desk. He pulls the book back like a baseball bat and takes a hard swing towards Ashley’s face.

    WHAM!!

    Ashley jolts awake in bed trying to catch her breath as a bead of sweat rolls down her forehead. Spencer quickly wakes up and sits up in bed next to Ashley.

    Spencer: Baby what is it? What’s wrong?

    Ashley: God it felt so real. I had this dream…I…

    Spencer puts her hand up to Ashley’s cheek.

    Spencer: Baby, you’re burning up. Are you feeling okay?

    Ashley takes in a deep breath.

    Ashley: Yeah, it was just a bad dream.

    Spencer: Do you want to talk about it?

    Ashley replays the dream while Spencer brushes the damp hair out of Ashley’s eyes.

    Ashley: Ummm…I was in…I guess a dorm room, Aiden was there.

    Spencer: Aiden?

    Ashley: Yeah, we were fighting. Something about drugs, I tried to help him but he wouldn’t let me. He got mad and tried to hit me, that’s when I woke up. It’s weird though, I thought I was there.

    Spencer: Ash, it sounds like you had a flashback.

    Ashley looks at Spencer in surprise.

    Ashley: That was a pretty scary flashback.

    Spencer: It’s okay. You’re safe now.

    Ashley finally cracks a smile. Spencer smiles back and gives Ashley a soft kiss on the lips. Spencer pulls back, she looks into Ashley’s eyes and caresses her cheek.

    Spencer: What are you thinking about?

    Ashley: (pause) It never occurred to me that my first memory might be a bad one. I was really hoping it would be of you.

    Spencer: Well while you’re trying to remember the old memories we can make new ones.

    Ashley smiles.

    Ashley: I love you Spence.

    Spencer’s eyes widen in shock and joy. When Spencer doesn’t say anything after a few seconds Ashley gets nervous.

    Ashley: I know we haven’t been together long, but I just know that there is something between us-

    Spencer: I love you too.

    Ashley: You…love me?

    Spencer giggles.

    Spencer: Yes Ashley.

    Ashley: Wow.

    Ashley throws the covers off of her and jumps out of bed.

    Spencer: Baby, what are you doing?

    Ashley: I have to tell Kyla.

    Spencer: Ash, it’s 3:30 in the morning. Let her sleep and we’ll tell her in the morning. Now come back to bed.
