Chapter Four

Ashley’s Story

     Today everyone decided to go back to the spot at the beach that we found yesterday, and have a BBQ and bonfire. We’re all riding in the same cars as before. The tops down and Spencer has her head back with her eyes closed. The wind is blowing through her hair, and I can’t take my eyes away from how beautiful she looks right now. I wish I could tell her. I watch her as she opens her eyes and turn to me. She smiles a warm smile and my heart skips a beat. This girl makes me fall harder every day. I smile back at her then bring my eyes to the road.

     We parked our cars and the boys started the BBQ. Kyla and Brittany brought their long chairs again and sat there talking while Spencer and I walked further from everyone and sat down next to each other. I looked at her and she was quiet, just watching the ocean. But in her eyes she seemed to be saying so much.

     "What’s on your mind Spence?" I asked as I hugged my knees to my chest and rested my head on them, facing her. She looked over at me and I gave her a smile.

     "I just…been thinking." She said sotfly.

     "About what?" I asked, still looking at her.

     "You know, at first when my parents said they thought I should come down here to stay with Marty for the summer, I was really upset, and didn’t want to leave." She said staring out at the water again. I picked up a stick that was laying beside me and started to doodle.

     "Really, why’s that?" I asked her.

     "Because, I thought I would suffer, and I didn’t think I would meet anybody, but I was wrong." She started to say. "I met the most incredible people ever, especially you." She said. I looked over at her and she was smiling.

     "Well, I’m glad you came here, you’re the only person I’ve felt so comfortable around, and I love being with you" I said to her and her smile gradually got bigger. I looked back down at the sand and noticed I doodled a heart, and I didn’t even know it. I quickly scribbled it out hoping Spencer didn’t see it, but when I looked at her she was watching me from the corner of her eye with a smirk on her face. I think she saw it.
