My smile falters with you part 2 – (Chapter: i am proud of you)

“Ready?” Spence asked her other half as she squeezed Ashley’s hand gently, the look that came to her lovers face told her she wasn’t but she smiled through it and nodded. “I love you.”

“Good!” They both got out of the car and before they made it to the door it opened, and Ashley’s heart began to pound; it still amazed her that Paula had this affect on her. Yet the person at the door was Arthur who’s warm smile melted away some of her fear.

“Now here’s my favourite girls!” said as he went into to hug Spencer.

“Hi, dad sorry we’re late, the um traffic was terrible.” He nodded knowing that it must have been a struggle to get Ashley to attend as he looked at the brunette with a loving smile. He now turned to Ash and gave her a tight hug, trying to convey in just a hug that it would be okay. Spencer watched the exchanged and wished that her mother could be the same. As her mind travelled back to the day it came out.

Spencer tried to sneak in through the front door as quietly as possible, knowing that she was over an hour late, but hoped her mother would be in bed. No such luck. As she reached the stairs the hall light came on. Busted.

“Where have you been it’s half twelve?” Paula asked her forehead knotted, she knew where Spencer had been, the same place she always was; with Ashley.

“Sorry mum, we were just all studying for this test on Monday and lost track of the time.” It was a lie, and she knew by her mother’s expression that she too knew it wasn’t the truth.

“Don’t treat me like a fool Spencer you have been with Ashley haven’t you?” He voice was slightly louder this time, and the younger girl knew this was gonna boil up into a fight.

“She was with us all at Aiden’s…” But her sentence was cut off.

“You were not studying Spencer, where are your books?” The blonde cursed herself for not lying better, she had never been good at being dishonest to either of her parents.

“I guess I must have left them.” It was the first thing that came to her mind.
