“She’s asleep honey,” Gray signed. He wasn’t as good as Ashley at signing, he hadn’t been learning for quite so long, but he was getting there. Ashley nodded, confirming his words.
“She’s in a coma,” Elly signed with thin lips, “But I still want to see her.”
Ashley nodded again. “Ok.”
“Alex wants to come too,” Elly said. Sometimes she was so articulate, so smart, that Ashley nearly forgot she was only eight. But then she’d say something like that and the brunette would have to smile, knowing full well that Alex hadn’t said anything of the kind. Elly wanted him to come, but that was ok too.
“Of course,” Ashley smiled again.
“Ashley,” Gray said, not signing but just talking, “Do you really think…”
“No,” she murmured. “But I know her well enough to know that we won’t get out of taking her there. I’d rather she was there with us anyway.”
“Ok,” he sighed with resignation. “Lets get going then. I’ll take them for the rest of the day if you like.”
“You sure?” she said.
“Yes,” he said, with the exact same determination as Elly. Ashley had always assumed that the stubbornness came from Spencer but now she wasn’t quite so sure. “If it was the other way round, I know where I’d like to be.”
“Thank-you Gray,” she said, meaning every syllable a hundred fold.
“It’s ok,” he replied, a soft smile lighting up his grey eyes. “Come on, lets go send Arthur home for a rest.”
“Yeah,” she said. “Lets.”

Spencer’s mother was not amused. She raised one perfectly manicured eyebrow at Spencer’s appearance, taking in the caked in mud from head to toe. She opened her mouth to say something and Spencer just rolled her eyes, taking off up the stairs two at a time.
She left her mother gaping downstairs. It wasn’t like they spoke often anyway. Spencer was so disgusted with her mother’s actions in general that she had very little to say to the woman. And every time her mother tried to talk to her, Spencer just chose one of two options, she walked away or she failed to listen.

So I’ve been patiently waiting…okay so maybe not so patiently…okay, I was pretty much stalking the website to look for an update from you. My heart leapt with joy when I saw your update. I’m still really sad for Ashley but now I’m sad for Elly, Alex, and even Gray too. Poor Elly, with all her wisdom, knows her mother is not okay. As for the other part of the short, how cool is it that Spencer falls in love with Ashley even in her coma-induced dream? At least, that’s where I assume this is heading. So thanks for making me happy but please PMS!
such a smart 8 year old…poor elly :-(. poor entire family damn it! this is so sucky. damn it spencer, just hook up with ashley right now so you can wake your ass up and get back to real ashley and really hook up with her hahaha. ughh. such a great story. do you have any idea how great it is? i do hope so.

I stumbled upon your fanfics and have found them to be beautifully written and with a honesty that can cause the heart to jumb for joy or cry with deep sadness. I’m was wondering if you had disappeared forever? Please continue with this story…I beg of you!!!

Great chapter, Elly is adorable, i love how she picks up on how Ashley feels and is helping out with Alex. Also i’m still loving the coma part of the story, it’s really interesting, update soon!
