Studying abroad was the best thing I had ever done, and I would never trade it for the world. I experienced the culture in more ways then one. It wasn’t just the many museums, but it was the restaurants, and bars, and clubs. It was the people – hanging out with them and yes, even sleeping with them. Oh yeah, and I went to class too.
It was hard to be so far away from Spencer. They say that home is more than a place, and Spencer had shared my home for the past two years. It became true that my home was wherever Spencer was. In that way you could say that I experienced homesickness. I missed her more than I missed the actual location though. America was cool and all, but I was just totally immersed in this experience and culture. I didn’t miss much that was traditionally “American.”
We did our best to keep in touch, but it was really difficult with the 6-hour time difference. I talked to her on Friday nights as often as I could, but she wasn’t free until 6pm her time – 12am the next day my time. On a Friday this usually meant that I was pretty drunk by the time we talked. There were some e-mails, and facebook messages here and there too. We made our friendship work over the distance as best as we could, and I couldn’t really complain. We wrote about the same things we would talk about in person, people we knew, hopes, dreams, rants, whatever. The ones that stand out though were of course the emotional: I miss yous, and I love yous that I wanted so much to hear from her.
I made many jokes about our “encounter,” to reduce any feeling of embarrassment Spencer might feel. This seemed to help us get back to our normal friendship. She once said, “Yes, can we please make fun of our drunken affair so that I never have to feel awkward about it. Okay? Okay, good!”
My intoxication when we talked, often led to my profession of love to her. Friend love of course, I wasn’t quite ballsy enough to go any further than that yet.

hopefully they get to be together for a little while in a sort of romantic way before spence heads off
I’m making a guess here… Ashley’s gunna come home spill her guts to Spencer, then Spencer won’t know how to react cause she’s seeing this boy (blah whatever) and then things will get confusing for her, Ash will feel heart broken cause Spence will now be the one leaving and it will be weird. And then.. drama-rama-rama! Haha Am i right? I’m right huh? I’m jk jk. But really this story rocks, I love your writting and I can’t wait to see what happens with these two. Pms =]
That was wonderful. Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I pray that Ashley and Spencer wind up together once she returns. However, this story has the essence of a tragic love story. I feel as though my heart shall break for them, please prove me wrong. Amazing update. PMASAP!!!
I also think that Ash is going to pour her heart out and I really want to see them together but I don’t think Spence will be ready for it so she’ll shut Ash out and then comes more and more drama! ugh with the drama! just kidding, makes for a great read. Love Love Love this story, you have no idea. Seriously, did a happy dance when I saw this post was up =) please pms!!

Well that was just great :-) Nice meaty chapter so thanks…Very sweet and I gotta say I LOVE Facebook I’ve recently found one of my all time best friends I lost touch with, never really got into the MySpace thing…Sorry I digress…Back to the story! I anticipate some drama coming up, things never run smoothly in Spashley land do they?…Ummm does Ash confess, get rejected, randomly hook up and get caught by Spencer who is coming round to say she feels the same?? Too involved?..How about Ash says nothing, Spencer finds a man on her internship, Ash wallows until Spahleyness eventually ensues?? Or…I know, I know, I’m rambling…but this is good…Ash says nothing but Spenceer hooks up with an Ashley look-a-like whilst on her internship and Ash wishes she’d said something before!?! Can I at least have points for effort ?!? :0)
