“It’s over, I can’t see you anymore.”

Ashley’s words echoed in her head before their meaning actually connected in her brain. There had to be a mistake she must have misunderstood, right?

“What?” Spencer finally managed to squeak out.

Ashley got off the bed and started putting back on her clothes that had been flung around the room. She didn’t once look up in Spencer’s direction.

“We….I….I can’t do this anymore Spencer.” Ashley finally said.

“Can’t do what? You love me, you said so, you’ve always loved me.”

Tears had started to pour down Spencer’s face. She was seconds away from becoming completely hysterical. This couldn’t be happening. Maybe she was still sleeping. She tried her best to will herself awake, but the more she tried the more she realized she wasn’t dreaming.

“Things are changing Spencer. I just can’t keep this a secret anymore.”

“You’re the one that said this had to stay secret. I wanted to tell everyone.”

Ashley sat on the edge of the bed, fully dressed, facing away from Spencer. They were once again surrounded by a painful silence before Ashley once again spoke up.

“I have responsibilities Spencer; people expect certain things from me. I can’t be with a girl especially…….” She trailed off and Spencer finished her sentence for her.

“…not me, right?” Spencer’s heart was aching and the pain in her chest was causing her anger level to rise.

“You came here tonight to break up with me?” She asked hurt, but with a hint of venom in her voice.

Ashley just nodded her head. Tears were running down her face, but Spencer could barely see them through her own blurred vision.

“Then what the hell was this,” She said gesturing to her own naked body, “Some sort of goodbye fuck?”

Ashley didn’t respond she just stayed sitting, facing away from her.

“You show up here in the middle of the night, without saying a word you fuck me and then all of a sudden you don’t want to be with me anymore? What’s this really about Ashley? I mean for Gods sakes five hours ago you were telling me that you loved me and now this?”

Still Ashley neither moved from her spot nor said a word.

The hurt in Spencer boiled over and she heard herself suddenly yelling.

“Answer me.”

Ashley finally turned and faced her. All Spencer wanted was an explanation, a problem they had that she was unaware of and could now work to fix, anything.

“I’m Sorry.” Was the only response Ashley gave before turning away from her again.

Only a few seconds had passed before Spencer spoke again. Her voice once again filled more with pain then anger.

“Get out.”

“Spencer please, you’re my best friend and I…….” Ashley started to softly say before Spencer got out of bed and without putting on her clothes walked out of the room. Spencer could feel Ashley walking behind her and when she reached the front door of the apartment she opened it, looking down at the ground she waited silently as Ashley walked out before forcefully closing the door and collapsing into a heap on the floor against it.
