I Will Try To Fix You – (Chapter: Part One- Reparative Therapy)
Unable to find a voice to object with, Spencer only continued to shuffle up the steps, her eyes never lifting off the ground for more than a moment. She kept wishing for a hole to appear that she could drop into, or possibly a cliff edge she could dive off before anyone got a chance to stop her. Unfortunately there was no such thing, only a large myriad of tear stained faces and furrowed brows. She stepped through the large doors that lead into a bulky gym type building where maybe 40 other kids were already seated on the floor, facing a large stage. Spencer took a seat by herself, her eyes wandering around the large room as she took in her surroundings.
“This seat taken?” The voice caught her off guard and the blonde’s shoulders jolted, her head snapping in the direction that it came from. Upon seeing it was just another girl she gave a small and almost invisible shrug, her eyes quickly shifting back to the floor.
The girl, who looked to be about 16, just as Spencer, took a seat beside her. The awkward silence resided between them for a moment before she spoke up, unable to tolerate it any longer, “I’m Ashley.” She announced, earning a glance from the quiet blonde, whose eyes looked unnaturally blue. Perhaps it was that sad, distant look they had about them that so deepened the color.
“Spencer.” She replied quietly, looking slightly puzzled as to why this girl was even speaking to her. She took a moment to take her in, her eyes scanning over the brunettes features. She had pleasantly tanned skin, dark eyes that held a rather angry and defiant glow inside them, and a figure lean enough to make any girl jealous. Spencer silently chided herself for noting the last feature, realizing it was thoughts like that that landed her here in the first place.
“So I’m guessing your not here by choice?” The girl ventured boldly, picking at the grey carpet as she spoke. When she received no reply from Spencer she continued on, oblivious to the idea that maybe the blonde wasn’t interested in speaking with her, “Me neither… I told my mom I was gay and she freaked. We got into a fight of epic proportions, and the next thing I know I am being loaded into a van and being told I’m ‘going to get better’.” She rolled her eyes, performing finger quotes on the little phrase. Spencer watched her speak with some curiosity, wondering how the girl managed to be so outgoing in a place like this.
