I Didn’t Mean To Fall I Love With You, It Just…Kind Of Happened – (Chapter: Cell Phone: $75.95, Porsche: $48,698, Awkward Car Rides: Priceless)

Spencer made her way back to Ashley’s front door but right before she could knock, or ring the doorbell, the door swung open.

Ashley: She sighed “So…what do you want?” she said lacking enthusiasm

    Spencer’s thoughts: “You.”

Spencer: “Um…is that offer for a ride still good?” She avoided eye contact with Ashley.

Ashley: “I don’t know Spence…I’m kind of tired and I have to get my stuff ready for school tomorrow.

Ashley’s Thoughts: “What are you doing you know you want to give her the ride. What a lame excuse “I have to get ready for school” yea right! She’s just scared, give her time. You just met her today.” Spencer looked down and played with the hem of her shirt.

Spencer: “Ok, I understand.” she said somberly. Spencer turned to walk away, her head still hanging low. Ashley grabbed Spencer’s hand and Spencer looked back at Ashley.

Ashley: “Sure Spence…I’ll give you a ride.” Ashley smiled weakly. “Just don’t freak out on me again!” Spencer nodded and smiled. Ashley’s smile widened. They both got into Ashley’s car and drove off. The car ride was silent.

Ashley: “So…you want to tell me which way I’m going here or are we going to sit here in this very, VERY, awkward silence while I get us lost.” Ashley glanced over at Spencer and grinned. Spencer chuckled.

Spencer: “Uh, yeah. Just keep going straight make a left when you get to Lucas Avenue.” The car became quiet again.

Ashley: “Back to the awkward silence.” she said in a sing song voice, while tapping the steering wheel.

Spencer: “Sorry.” Spencer looked down and played with her hands

Ashley: “It’s okay, I’m the one that should be apologizing for the way I…came on to you back there.” she looked over at the blond.

Spencer: “I’m sorry for freaking out like that.” Spencer gave Ashley a meek look and turned to look out of her window. “So…I take it your…” she paused, but before she could finish her sentence Ashley chimed in.

Ashley: “Gay?” Spencer turned her head to look at Ashley. “What? That is what you were gonna say, right?”

Spencer: “Yeah.” she said in an contrite tone, looking down and playing with her hands again. Ashley looked over again.

Ashley: “Well…I’m not really into labels.” she watched Spencer fidgeting with her hands. “Am I making you nervous?” she asked nonchalantly

Spencer’s thoughts: “Nervous as hell. You almost kissed me, but the scary thing is…I kind of wanted you to.”

Spencer: “No.” she lied looking out the window “Why would you think that?” She looked back at Ashley.

Ashley: “Well, you keep rubbing your hands.” she glanced over at Spencer, Spencer quickly turned her head to look out the window again. “And…every time I look at you, you turn away.” she tapped the steering wheel “That’s a clear sign of nervousness Spence.” she chuckled, trying to get Spencer to lighten up. Spencer relaxed a little and smiled.

Spencer: “Well…my house is the next one coming up.” Spencer pointed to her house, trying to change the subject. They pulled into the driveway. They just sat there for a while, in a comfortable silence, sneaking glances at one another. “So…I guess I should…get going.”

Ashley: “Ok, so I’ll see you tomorrow at school?” Spencer smiled and nodded. She reached for the door handle but stopped, looked over at Ashley then back down.

Spencer’s thoughts: “I really want to hug her, but I don’t know if I should.”

Ashley: “Spence, what’s wrong?” Ashley gave her a concerned look. Spencer looked at the worried girl and smiled.

Spencer: “Nothing.” she leaned over and hugged Ashley. This caught Ashley off guard, but she hugged back and took in the aroma of Spencer’s hair. They finally released from the hug and Spencer stepped out, only to stop on Ashley’s side of the car. Spencer looked down at Ashley through the open window. Ashley gazed up at the blond taking in her beauty.

Spencer: “Call me?” she gave Ashley a hesitant half smile, worried about the answer she would receive. Ashley smiled.

Ashley: “Of course.” Spencer smiled again and walked to her door. She stopped and looked back at Ashley one last time before entering her house. She leaned back on the door and smiled contently. Meanwhile Ashley smiled to herself once Spencer was in her house and drove off.
