I Could Never Forget About You – (Chapter: How could you keep this from me?)

“What?” She practically whispers. After all the time I’ve known Ashley, I’ve never been this angry and I can’t help but raise my voice.

“Cut the shit Ashley, Aiden told me!” I promised him I wouldn’t include his name, but hell when you’re in the heat of the moment you really can’t control yourself. She’s silent, never meeting my eyes as she stares at the floor. I take it as my cue to continue.

“I thought we were friends…” I sigh in disappointment. I knew that would do, as soon as those words leave my mouth her eyes leave the carpet on her bedroom floor, to look up at me.

“Stop it Spencer. You know we are.” Her words come out shaky, as if she was to just break in to pieces right in front of me.

“Then how could you not tell me,” I pause flailing my hands above my head for effect. “Probably the most important thing about your life.” I finish, my voice dropping lower to a whisper with every word that leaves my lips. Once again I’ve left her speechless; I might as well be having this conversation with myself.

“Nothing? Yeah, real mature Ashley, real mature.” I make my way past her to the still open door before she grabs my shoulder, halting all my movements.

“You’re overreacting Spencer.” Overreacting? Me? How else am I supposed to react?

“Overreacting? Overreacting? Ashley I told you every little thing about my life, but you…you couldn’t even trust me with this?”

“It’s not even like that Spencer.”

“Then what’s it like Ashley? Please, do tell. Explain why you decided to hide this from me?” I ask crossing my arms in front on my chest. All she does is play with her ring, much like she did the first time we held a real conversation. “Stop playing with that damn ring and tell me!” I think I might have scared her. She quickly drops her hands to her sides, but keeps with the silent treatment.

“Tell me Ashley… or I’m out.” I say in a depleted voice. I can’t do this anymore, so for the second time in less than ten minutes I’m making my way to her door, part of me hoping she’d stop me again.
