Hoops – (Chapter: 8: Truth or Dare, Part 1)

“Amanda,” I stated, then added, “She’s quiet, sweet and cute.”  I looked over at Amanda who was now smiling and blushing, and I was glad I’d chosen her.

“Aw…how sweet,” Rebecca joked, “So Spencer, you’re into the quiet, innocent type?  I guess you like dating yourself.”

“Whatever, I don’t have a ‘type’,” I defended, “this was just a hypothetical situation.  I think you are all equally beautiful, and I wouldn’t mind dating anyone of you…if I was a guy.”

“Even Ashley?” Rebecca questioned with a smirk, astonishing every single one of us into silence.

I may have been able to hide my surprise before, but not this time.  My jaw dropped in disbelief.  I quickly looked at Ashley, and we caught each others’ gazes, holding them for quite some time.  I was the first to look away.

    “Yeah, including Ashley,” I muttered.

The silence dragged on, becoming increasingly uncomfortable.  I was looking down at my hands, but I could see from the corner of my eye that Rebecca had a victorious smirk plastered on her stupid face.  Since, the first day we ate together, she made it clear she thought Ashley had a crush on me.  But even if she did think that, the question was completely inappropriate and I was sure Karen and Ashley agreed; both of whom still looked astonished and seemed to be giving each other quick glances.  I didn’t want Karen to know about Rebecca’s off the mark speculation, because I knew it would insert some degree of awkwardness in our friendship.  After all, I was sure she still had feelings for Ashley.

“Ok, so it’s my turn now,” I declared breaking the silence.  “Karen, truth or dare?”

“Dare! I’m always down for a dare,” she exclaimed, seemingly unfazed by what just took place.

“Ok, I dare you to run around the room and act like a monkey for 60 seconds.”

“Spence, that’s so lame and so easy,” Karen replied, before, true to her word, she started scratching her armpits while running around yelling “Ooh, Ooh, Ah, Ah.”  We all rolled around on the floor dying of laughter for the entire 60 seconds.  When she was finished, we all begged her to keep going, but, probably to maintain some dignity, she refused.
