    “Maybe it would better for both of us if I just let it go.”  Danielle just shakes her head and looks down.

               

                “Well I’m gonna go to bed now.”  I am not sure how to describe her tone, but I know there is something wrong.  Her voice oozes with disappointment, but is laced with enough annoyance that I am not going to question her need to retire at ten o’clock.  She silently clicks off her light as she slides into bed and turns to face the wall without another word.

     

                I sit on the edge of my bed, staring helplessly at the back of the person who I easily owe my sanity to, if not my life.  Danielle has been my roommate and my best friend since school began, but in her silent statement I know in my heart I have crossed the limit of her patience.  Like usual, she ultimately leaves the decision up to me in hopes I will do the right thing, but with Spencer, I never do and her reaction tells me that this time is no different.

     

                Although I am completely and totally emotionally spent, having slept all day, I physically can not share her desire to call it a night.  Instead, I change my clothes and slip on sneakers before heading out the door, hanging one last look on Dani who uncharacteristically has her back to me as she attempts to sleep,. 

     

                The hallway seems longer than usual and the faces in it are different.  It feels as if the whole world has changed while I’ve slept.  Perhaps I just have a new perspective.  My feet drag as I walk heavily down the seemingly unfamiliar corridor, hoping for even a sliver of recognition of the life I had before I knew she called.  Or even of the life I had before I knew I was capable of putting my hands in rage to someone’s throat.

     

                I finally reach the exit and step out into the brisk November air.  It is particularly chilly and I watch the breath leave my mouth in a thick white cloud.  I stuff my hands into my pockets and say a silent thank you as I emerge with the gloves I was unsure I would find there.  I close my jacket tightly around me and slip the gloves on before I head out into the night.

I always loved her, just as I always hated Sara and Jesse, I know they are bad news, both of them, even if we have only heard about crazy Sara, mabye Jesse is hitting spencer? or cheating on her? or doing drugs? Oh I hope so. So what’s next? Just make Ashley call her, I mean come on! is she going to take like 2 years? so when they can finally be together they are out of college? that’s NOT fair, Ashley can always transfer

    23. All I have to say is, thank you, Danielle. You see, she’s a little-known actress and even SHE’s willing to do what’s best for the story! Man. Ashley, stop acting like the spoiled, rich girl that you are and be pro-active for once. Why is it that the last line of that made me think of Jessica Simpson and P. Diddy?

It didn’t seem like Ashley was EVER going to make a move, I’m just SOMEONE did, even if it wasn’t her.
