From the Beginning – (Chapter: Chapter 3: Lost in Translation)

They chatted amongst themselves for a few minutes before Ashley stood from the booth.

"I’ll be back. Time for another bar run."

Spencer saw a couple of minutes along with Aiden as an opportunity. She felt like Ashley had been giving her the cold shoulder all evening. Maybe Aiden could give her some insite.

"Aiden, I don’t think Ashley likes me very much."

"I would say the problem here is quite the contrary."

Spencers heart skipped a beat. "What exactly do you mean by that?"

"well…" And with that Ashley returned.

Spencer had never in her life been more confused. Things were so much easier back in Ohio. All she knew was she had never felt like this in her life, but she didn’t know what it all meant.

She started to feel stomach sick again and excused herself to the washroom.

"I’ll go with you, Spencer." Ashley stood with her.

Rushing into the bathroom ahead of Ashley, Spencer ran into a stall and quickly locked the door, not really sure what she was so afraid of. A few minutes later she was starting to feel a little better and had a plan of action to talk to Ashley a little more one on one.

She found Ashley sitting on the couch in the corner of the room.

"I’m starting to think you don’t like me very much. Does this have something to do with Aiden?"

Ashley started to laugh. "Nope, not really. Not how you mean, anyway."

Spencer was more confused than ever. Why did she feel like everything people said in LA was getting lost in translation?

"So, you added me on facebook last night."

"Yeah, just seemed like we might hit it off. It would be nice to know some people here, ya know?"

    "Did you read my profile?"

    "I glanced. Why?"

"Just, you asked if it was about Aiden. Wanted to make sure you realize he is not my type."

The churning started again in Spencer’s stomach.

"Are you not cool with that? I’m starting to feel like everytime I talk to you, you get physically sick."

Spencer laughed slightly, feeling her mouth go dry. "Just say something Spence," she mumbled.

    "What was that?"

"I might be a little drunk. What was in that drink Aiden gave me?"

"Triple vodca. Not much of a drinker are we?"

"Ashley, can I ask you something?"

"Why not. No, I don’t think you should go home with Aiden tonight."

"Ha, Ha,funny. But no." Spencer hesistated and finally decided she was just drunk enough to have this conversation with Ashley.

"How did you know…." her sentence trailed off.

Ashley sat a little more upright and faced Spencer on the couch.

"I mean, when did you figure out that….or I mean…"

Ashley decided to end the punishment then and there.

"About a year ago." Her face held a sobering expression as she began to recount her story to Spencer.
