    Ashley just stuck close to her, in the hope that should Spencer need her, she’d be there. The pilot had no idea what else to do, she’d never been here before. She’d never been anyone’s support before.

     

    And she couldn’t just leave Spencer. That was unthinkable.

     

    And yet she couldn’t stay here. She also couldn’t ask Spencer to leave.

     

    The blonde hadn’t suggested that she required Ashley to be around, but Ashley had noticed that when they were apart, Spencer always came looking for her. She never said anything, but she was always near. And when they were together, if there was too much space between them, the blonde reduced it so they were just touching.

     

    Ashley wasn’t dumb. The girl needed her. She wasn’t in a position to say so right now, but she was needy. And that was ok.

     

    Until the people in charge began talking about heading into the hills and looking for survivors. Ashley’s craft was barely hidden. It would be found in seconds if they went poking around, and then Spencer would really be alone.

     

    Before they started searching, Ashley was going to have to leave.

     

    It was another three days, a full week of quiet contemplation, before it became clear that Ashley really was going to have to go. And probably the next day.

     

    It was dusk, with the pink sun lighting the sky in beautiful shades. Ashley headed out into the town to find Spencer, who had gone for a walk earlier.

     

    The blonde was just a few hundred metres from the edge of the small, makeshift community that had been set up in a small corner of the main town. The rest of the city was empty, a hollow, echoing mass that everyone avoided. There were only enough people to fill a small area around the space port and everyone was congregating together. In true spirit, the people left were determined to rebuild, resettle, regain their lives.

     

    Except for Spencer who still looked completely lost and overwhelmed. Ashley wasn’t surprised, but if Spencer didn’t want to lose the one person left in her life, then she had to let her go for awhile.

    1. Oh please say that Spencer is hiding in the ship. I think she is. I really thought this was going to be a semi-happy Spashley story but then you did a complete turnaround and killed off Spencer’s family. Now I have no idea what’s going to happen. But you know what…I like it. I have a feeling that was the point all along. Anyway, love it!!

    2. So I just went and took a shower (was that too much information? probably) and thought about this story some more. See, I told you I was stalking you. Anyway, a thought occured to me. Spencer’s probably going to want to open up a can of whoop ass on the bad people, isn’t she? She can’t just let them get away with that. Isn’t Glen still out there in space to help her? Just my thoughts.
