    Spencer was up ridiculously early for someone who had spent the night awake at work. She often slept until late afternoon on her night shift weeks. She didn’t start until nine, so she had plenty of time. It begged the question then: Why was she up and ready at one in the afternoon? And ridiculously on edge after only four hours sleep.

     

    She knew exactly why. One gorgeous brunette: Captain Ashley Davies. She’d spent her four hours asleep dreaming about her. Mostly about their moment, that one crisp moment in which they’d nearly… they’d nearly what?

     

    Spencer might have spent her entire life on a church planet but she was no idiot. The girl had been flirting with her non-stop from the moment they’d met. She’d even flirted with her in the marketplace when they’d barreled into each other. And last night she’d nearly kissed Spencer.

     

    That just didn’t happen on Orlandio. Oh, Spencer knew it happened elsewhere. Her mother had gotten that pursed lipped look she got, the one of severe disapproval, when Spencer had dared to ask about it. She’d only been young, full of questions and interest. That one had been answered swiftly, hotly and without any room for further lines of question. Girls did sometimes kiss girls. It was wrong, it was against god and it didn’t happen on Orlandio. It was a quick ride on the pathway straight to hell and Spencer would do well to never think or speak of it again.

     

    And really she hadn’t. Much. Well, that was a lie. Her mother rarely had such a vehement response to anything. Occasionally it popped up in her head. Like when she’d felt her body stir watching Lucy Andrews get changed for gym class. Or when the famous singer Lolita had done that controversial video and Spencer had caught a glimpse. She’d felt that one in the back of her head and it was a new sensation. But on the whole, she hadn’t really given it much more thought. Until now.

     

    Those feelings that she was supposed to have had for David, before he’d taken the quick ride to hell for Jack, and those feelings she was supposed to have for Thom, she now had. They were rising in her faster than the tides on Hellenes and they were all for one very good looking captain. A FEMALE captain.
