Changing For the Better – (Chapter: Who Knew War Could Be So Seductive?)

“She’ll be there,” I love talking in third person.

“Tell her I’ll meet her after school then,” Ashley stated before reaching her destination. Right before I could get more than a couple of feet I could hear her call over her shoulder.

“Tell her to bring it,” she shouted.

    “Don’t worry Ash.” It’s on…

After school I met Ashley at her car.

“Ready to get your ass kick,” someone’s got a big head.

“You wouldn’t happen to have anything sharp would you? Cause I need something to deflate your ego.”

“Oh, ok, ok, we’ll see who comes out victorious.” She threw her bag into the back, and hopped into the car. “But oh Spencer.”

    “Yeah?”

“Whoever wins gets to do whatever,” she stated emphasizing the ever. “they want to the other.”

    “Deal,” I smirked.

    “Prepare to get rocked…”

We picked up Kyla, and were sitting in the room full of gear. I looked over at Ashley to find her deep in concentration.

    “You alright Ash?”

“Shhh, less talk more mental preparation,” Ashley silenced me.

    “Mental preparation?” I asked confused.

“I must mentally prepare ourselves for the battle ahead,” Ashley answered sitting in a meditating position. “Vision and attack, vision and attack,” She chanted.

“Someone has been doing a little too much mental preparation, and now have a mental illness,” Kyla laughed at the joke she just made.

    “Shhh,” Ashley silenced again.

“Is she going to be alright?” I nudged Kyla.

“I’ve been asking myself that since the first day I met her,” Kyla joked.

“I heard that!” Ashley proclaimed. “You laugh now but just wait till we get out. I‘ll get my revenge.”

    “Like you could,” Kyla replied.

“Guys, Guys,” I interrupted. “If anyone’s going to be kicking any ass obviously it would be me.”

“What no way,” Ashley and Kyla protested. Somewhere along our argument a guy came into the room. He handed us our guns and vests and started giving us directions on how to play, boundaries, how to operate the gun, guidelines, blah, blah, blah.

“Okay, so if you get hit twice you’re out till next game. Make sure to have your mask on at all times. So good.” Ashley was by now sitting in front of the mirror painting war stripes on her face. “You guys are up,” the guy said ushering us in.”

Poor Ashley, she didn’t stand a chance. Even after all of Ashley’s bragging I still kicked her ass. I shot Ashley once in the arm, twice in the leg, and once to the gut. I completely unloaded on Cara. I hit her helmet and it splattered right where the helmet covered her mouth. I watched it go through the holes, and paint her face. No doubt, she got to taste the paint after that shot. I guess I forgot to mention we used to play a lot of paintball back in Goodhue, oops.

“You failed to mention you rock at this game,” Ashley pouted peeling off the layers full of paint.

“Must have slipped my mind,” I laughed.

“How do you take those shots,” Kyla asked. “They hurt.”

“I have a high pain tolerance,” I stated. “I’m not a wimp,” I joked pinching Kyla.

    “Ouch, you’re mean.”

“So how did the paint taste?” I asked Kyla.

    “That stuff is disgusting.”

“That’s why you don’t eat it,” Ashley joked.

“It wasn’t exactly by choice,” Kyla said defensively.

“There is no mercy in war,” I declared. “There are only casualties.” I could hear Kyla mumbling something under her breath about then I should join the army. “Oh Ashley so I do believe we had a deal.” Yeah, I was going to enjoy this.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she denied.

“Nice try. But I have a few ideas in mind…”
