Changing For the Better – (Chapter: Concert and Songs)

“So Spencer I know this sounds like a strange question,” stated Kyla, “but I’m going to ask you anyways. What made you like the music you do?”

“I like my music, because my motto is I’m pessimistic cause life suck,” I joked. “No, I’m just kidding. I guess I just had a really bad year, and I just didn’t feel so ‘preppy’ anymore. Why do you listen to so much pop?”

“It‘s just what I like,” Kyla responded.

“I think you’re music changes as you grow up and more lyrics relate to you,” Ashley stated.

“I’ve changed too,” I replied. “I just hope it was for the better…”

“Spencer can I ask you something a little personal?” Kyla asked.

“Sure,” I responded hesitantly, unconsciously playing with my hands.

“You said you lived with your dad and your two brothers right?” Kyla questioned.

    “Yeah,” I answered confused.

“What happened to your mom?” She inquired.

“Um, well around the end of freshmen year she decided, after being my mother for fifteen years and both of my brothers for seventeen, that she just couldn’t do it anymore,” I replied looking away.

“So what she just packed up and left?” Ashley asked.

“Pretty much,” I responded. “I woke up one morning in May to find a letter on the counter. She didn’t have the balls to tell us herself she was leaving. The letter said I can’t deal with these responsibilities anymore. I stuck around to raise you, but I can’t be apart of your life’s anymore. You will always be in my heart, love mom.”

    “Oh, I’m sorry,” comforted Ashley.

“It’s alright. The way I see it, if she really loved us she would have stuck around. I don’t even know why I let it get to me. She never really did care. I was never going to be enough for her. Freshman year I was in three sports, was on the A honor roll, and did whatever I could to make her proud. It just never was enough,” I fumed. “ I don’t know why it still hurt so much, but it did. Even to this day, I can’t fully deal with the fact that she never really loved me, the fact that she never cared.”
