An Epic – (Chapter: The End of the Beginning)

"Cause life fucking happens, Spence! Jesus Christ…I’m sorry!" Ashley ran angry hands through her hair trying her best not to pull out brown locks in incurable frustration. She kept trying to keep her eyes open but it was hard. Her salty tears made her pupils burn. She was was seething and her body felt numb. The cold midnight winds had picked up a bit in the empty parking lot, blowing leaves and consumer debris in random, unplottable, directions. "This isn’t a fucking Disney movie! You can’t just snap your fingers and POOF everythings all better! But we have us…We have each other!" Ashley was leaning against her car door now, the only car in the lot, beating her fists lividly against the plastic of her porsche car window. "I gave you everything…I gave you the fucking world…" Her yells had since dissipated and regrouped to become a low and choked sob."Why are you leaving me?" Ashley leaned her head against the window, sliding down until she met the pavement, a small human ball next to dirty car tire. She lay like that for a few hours, shaking, cold and alone in the deserted school parking lot. It wasn’t until the sun came up that she came too. Ashley pathetically climbed the brick staircase that led to King. Her hair was a tossled mess, her eyes were red and skittish, her t-shirt had become askew, and her jeans were covered in dirt and grass stains. In her left hand she gripped her car keys. In her right hand she clutched a small silver ring so hard that her knuckles turned the dictionary definition of white.

Spencer pushed her way anxiously through the large crowd standing between her and the ticket kiosk. The train station was loud, dark, and gloomy. Almost like a funeral home except instead of being fraught with mourners, it was overflowing with impatient babyboomers and businessmen. "STOP! DAMNIT, SPENCER, STOP!" The plea didn’t quite serve it’s purpose as Spencer broke into a trot, now only feet away from her destination. Spencer just wanted a ticket out of there; She wanted to go anywhere. Yet, everywhere that came to mind was too close, nothing was far enough away from LA, from life. "SPENCER!?" A thin but strong arm gripped Spencer’s wrist at the same it spun her around violently, pulling her close. "You can’t just fucking leave! You can’t just leave her!" The voice faded in and out, desperate for air. Years from now, Spencer would say that she might’ve felt her blood boiling, reaching unheard of temperatures. "Don’t fucking touch me." She hissed, snapping her wrist back. "Don’t fucking touch me, don’t fucking call me, don’t fucking follow me cause I swear to god if you do I’ll kill you myself." The figure infront of her winced, slipping nervous hands into pants pockets and fidgeting with  quarters, nickles, dimes, pieces of tissue paper she found there. "She loves you, Spencer." The shape looked up from the ground it had been focused on. "It’s two in the goddamn morning and she loves you..She asked you to-" "She asked me to forget the last 3 weeks ever happened-" "No, she asked you to remember the last 3 months ever happened." The frail girl countered anxiously reaching up to run hands through her short wispy brown hair. Despiter her efforts it fell back into her face, shielding her eyes from Spencer’s hurt and broken gaze. She knew she was fighting the demon raging inside of her, telling her to run, let go, escape. "Listen, what happened between us–" "Nothing happened between us. You raped me." Spencer snapped angrily, on the verge of entering a state of blind rage. The girl infront of her winced again, her face contorting involuntarily at the Spencer’s caustic words. "She loves you. Don’t leave her. She didn’t do this…" With that the figure backed away, melting into the sea of faces and out of site.
