After Prom… – (Chapter: Encounters of the ASHLEY kind)

    Ch. 2

Pretty soon,  Carmen and I were pretty much joined at the hip. Word starting getting around that we were dating. I didn’t really mind, since.. it was pretty much true. I planned on taking her out to Grey tonight. I’ve also been careful this week to turn and go the other way whenever I saw Ashley. I was certain that she was trying to hunt me down.  Today I was just getting to my history class when I ran into the devil herself, Ashley. Good one, Spence. Next time watch where you’re going.  I knew she wasn’t going to let me get away without talking to her. “Hi.” I said, averting her eyes. “Spence-please.. can I have a word with you?” she pleaded, grabbing my hand. I pulled away. “I don’t have anything to say to you, Ashley.” I said coldly. “And don’t call me Spence. You lost the right to call me that a long time ago.” She sighed in exasperation. “Fine, Spencer, you may have nothing to say to me, but I do. Please, just hear me out, ok?” she said, this time pleading with her eyes as well.

I gave in. My shoulders slumped in defeat. “Ok, Ash, but I’m not wasting more than 10 minutes with you.” “Meet me at the beach afterschool.” She said. And then I turned away from her, leaving her in the middle of the hall. Life had been going so well, too. I didn’t know what she could possibly want to say to me, but I knew I really didn’t want to hear it if it had to do with her and Aiden. Their relationship was something that disgusted me in everyway.

I got to the beach a little late, since I had to drop Carmen off at my house first. After the first day of school, it became a routine for her to hang out at my house afterschool. When I got there, I saw Ashley sitting on the sand, watching the waves roll in and then back out. She did look somewhat miserable, I must admit.

“Hey.” I said as I walked up to her. She immediately got up and started brushing the sand off her. “Spencer.” “So, Ash.. you wanted to talk to me.” I said, taking a seat on the sand. Ashley then sat down right next to me. “Yeah. Look, Spence, I’m sorry for all the pain I caused you during prom.. it’s just, Aiden and I never finished where we left off, and all those feelings, they just.. resurfaced.” I snorted in disbelief. “You know, Ashley, I loved you more than anyone else. You said you loved me, too. But you lied to me when you said you only had feelings for me and not for Aiden anymore when I asked you. And you turned to him, when I was there for you every single effing day, Ashley. I don’t want to hear anymore about anything involving you and Aiden. I’m starting to figure out that life is a lot better now that I’m moving on to better things and better people.” Ashley cringed at my words.
