A World Apart – (Chapter: Point of No Return)

“Shhh. It’s OK. After that, I never talked to Aiden again. I’ve been just as withdrawn from him as… as… as you have been from me.” With those last words she looked up at me in that way that made her look so innocent.

“I’m so sorry, it was all my fault. I should never have let you go.” She said as she began to regain control of her voice.

“Listen, I should never have left either. It’s mostly my fault.” Then there was a few minutes of silence before I spoke up again. “Your so cute when your crying.” I forced a laugh when she giggled a bit. I could tell she was still in a lot of emotional pain, but I just sat there and held her for what seemed like an eternity. “So,” I continued, changing the subject, “What brings you to Minnesota?”

“I came here to get away from LA. I couldn’t stay there with all the memories after what…. after what happened. And what‘s further from LA then here?” She had stopped crying, but after her last sentence she began to sob a bit more.

I looked at the clock on the bed side table and shouted “Shit!” We had been ‘cleaning’ for almost an hour. We only had 30 more minutes before we were supposed to be done. We had already wasted 45 minutes! After I saw her look at me confused I responded “Well I’m glad were back together, but we need to finish cleaning.”

“Shit!” she agreed. We continued to clean for the rest of our time. The cleaning we did was pretty half-assed, but it got the job done. “So, can I come over to your place after work and we can talk some more.” She put a sexy emphasis on the word ‘talk’ and I knew we would be doing anything but talking. After three years of not doing any ‘talking’ we were both ready to ‘talk’ all night. But just in case she didn’t feel up to it, I planned dinner and everything. Just in case everything did go my way, however, I made the bed all nice and neat, full well knowing there was no point to making it so neat.
