A Typical Teenage Mind – (Chapter: One)

She isn’t like them, she is far too good for them. She wants friends that want to be around her for just her, not the power she posses, not because of her popularity. She wants a friend that she can always come to with all of her problems. Somebody she can call up in the middle of the night because she had a bad dream. Someone that would be there to hold her if things got to rough, or she just needed some random rant. Someone that wants her, not the cover she walks around in.

    Someone like me.

Yet she never notices me. Well I lie, she does, she always shares looks with me, but never acts up on it. She sees me stand here watching, I know it, yes I sound like a stalker, but I’m just interested, she makes eye contact with me for way too long, she knows it, but she would never act on it.

Like now. She’s looking at me, eyes full of emotion, and I just stare back, waiting for something… anything. She’s silently asking me for a release, but she knows I can’t give it to her, not without her making the first move, not unless she says even a ‘hi’ in passing, not until she is brave enough to publically notice me.

Of course I’m noticed. The school freak always is. I came out to my best friend, head cheerleader at the time, Madison. It didn’t go very well. Everyone turned against me, my friends, I can’t even say family because my mum is never home, but even she looked at me differently. There was even a short period where my ex boyfriend, one of the first loves of my life wouldn’t talk to me.

    Now her boyfriend.

She knows I use to date him, he’s told her, she can feel the tension between the two of us when we are in the same room, or we walk past and nearly touch. She doesn’t care, she knows I no longer have feelings for him, she knows I’m gay; she knows I have feelings for her.

There is an odd ‘hey’ or ‘how are you’ between my ex and I, but I don’t mind, I find comfort in knowing he still cares, even if he doesn’t outwardly show it, it’s there.
