A New Beginning ::An Entry For ABM Fan Fic S1 Contest::
“I have to go. This is too much to deal with. It’s unnatural.”
Sophie swallowed heavily, avoiding Vivian’s gaze. Sophie’s stomach twisted into knots and threatened to explode. The teen backed away slowly in the direction of the school bus.
“And definitely not like you, Vivian!”
Vivian just stared back, and took a hesitant step, sadness and anger chilling her bones. This was exactly what she was afraid of. This was exactly why Vivian wanted to keep her private life private. Wringing her hands together, the timid brunette dug deep to find the right words. Impacting words.
People continued to wander the city, crossing the streets and going about their business without a care in the world. Most of the business “robots” kept cell phones glued to their ears, while the more carefree individuals chatted away effortlessly with their significant other without a care in the world. The world kept on spinning, kept on functioning, while Vivian’s life just couldn’t anymore.
*I’ve been living a lie,* Vivian deliberated, unable to tare her eyes off of the befuddled Sophie. *And it was hurting me, killing me. So why does facing with my secret Sophie hurt even more? *
Sophie felt her back hit a hard object and glanced to find that the object was the yellow bus. It was smaller than most, compact to accommodate the small group and fees. She whipped around furiously and made for the door, long blonde tresses following her right on cue.
“Come on, Soph.” Vivian unlocked her hands and took a step. “We’re just like any other couple. Aster is my girlfriend from the city. Not just my friend. She….she’s special to me and I love her and her values. I’m sure that you’d love her too once you got to know her. I’m still your friend, and I haven’t changed. If you just gave Aster a chance you’ll see tha—“
Sophie bit her bottom lip anxiously, deep enough to draw blood. She couldn’t speak. Just react. She was too afraid to face Vivian, afraid that her eyes would say too much; reveal too many hidden secrets. Sophie darted for the door and rapped on the glass for entry, which was granted by the driver in seconds. Vivian watched helplessly as her best friend went up the stairs and disappeared. Probably to the back of the bus.
