Chapter 6
On the other side of the country Kit was staring at a letter she received that morning. It was a letter from a singer named Candice Jewel. She was used to get a lot of letters from fans, singers, people who wanted to sing with her, record with her or just wanted to be with her and came up with some shady excuses to meet her. But Jerry, her assistant and manager, managed to keep thema way. She loved him to death, besides her husband and son
But this letter somehow got to her.
“Jerry, did you see who brought this letter?”
“Which one, Kit?”
“The one from Miss Jewel?”
“No, I haven’t.”
“Okey.”

“Why, something wrong?”

“Mmmm, no. But I want you to find out who she is. Can you arrange a meeting with her? But before you do, try to find out who she is.”

“Okey, I’m on it.”

Kit read the letter again:

Dear miss Porter,

I’ve always been a fan of you and I adored your songs. I am a singer myself and in my performances, I sing some of your songs. Last Sunday I had a gig at this Joint and halfway the song I was joined by a woman. She sang second voice and new all the lyrics. When the song was finished the audience gave us a standing ovation.
I invited her to sit and have a drink with me. She told me that the song reminded her of her sister, who is a singer. In her youth, she and her sister use to sing that song. She would always sing second and her sister lead. I hope that by now you know whom I’m talking about. Miss Porter, the lady told me, her name was Bette Porter. So I think I found your sister.

Kit read the letter over and over again. Could this be true? Did this Candice truely found her baby sister?

Kit thought back. After her stepmother died, things went down the drain for Bette. She couldn’t handle her grief. Their father was not the man who came home and he had nobody to come home to for, so he was away for weeks, leaving his daughter alone.
The last time she saw Bette, Bette didn’t look good. But Bette denied her sorrow. She told Kit, she was fine just a bit tired. So they made an agreement that Kit would come back to visit Bette within two weeks.
Kit held her part of the bargain but Bette didn’t. Her father told her, he kicked her out because he found out that Bette was drinking and using drugs. On top of it all, she was also kicked out of school.
Kit was devastated when she heard what her father did. She thought that she couldn’t hate him more than she already did. But she found out she could.
She told him that all the people she cared for, he killed or took them away from her. If anything bad would happen to Bette, she would make sure, she would scandalize his name. That was the last thing Kit told her father and that was five years ago. A few years later, he came to a meet and greet after a concert she did. That was the moment she told him, she never ever wanted to see him again. All those years she kept looking for her sister but she couldn’t find her. Ohh God, she couldn’t even remember how much money she spent on trying to track her sister down. The last year she was about to give up. And then all of a sudden this letter pops up…………….
