Il Mare
Chapter 5
Bette was at home when she received a phone call.
“Hey Kit.” Bette said picking up the phone. She listened to Kit and was told her father was in the hospital due to a heart attack.
Bette went to the hospital. She stopped by the nurse’s station and asked for her father.
“Hi, I am looking for Melvin Porter I don’t know which room he’s in.”
Sam was nearby and heard Bette.
“Melvin Porter, the architect?”
“Yes.”
“I am Dr. Makavajiev the attending physician for your dad. He had a mild heart attack but he’ll be fine. He’s stable.”
“Thank you. Which room again?” Bette asked.
Bette carefully entered her dad’s room and saw his father working on a sketch.
Hi Bette,
How are you doing? I haven’t heard anything from you.
I miss you.
Tina
Hi Tee,
I’m sorry about that. I have been busy. My dad had a heart attack and I am keeping him company. He’s not that great of a patient. You may know his attendant, Dr. Sam Makavajiev.
I miss you too.
Bette
Upon receiving Bette’s letter Tina searched for his father’s medical record. She learned that Bette’s father died after suffering another heart attack while he was in the hospital. She looked at the date and found that it was exactly two years ago from that day.
Bette was driving on her way to the hospital when she received the phone call from Dr. Makavajiev telling her the news that her father died.
The funeral had been a whirl. Bette did not know how she got through it but she did. After the funeral, she went home finding the red flag on the mailbox was up indicating she had mail.
I’m sorry, Bette. I wish there is some way that I can be there for you and sit together and look at the sunset in the house that your father built. If there’s one thing I can do for you, from here in the future I hope this is it. It won’t be published in a couple of years but I don’t think you should have to wait that long. I hope it helps you to know how much you were loved.
By the sunset, Bette reached out for what Tina was referring to as her gift and found a book that was his father’s memoir. He turned to a page and saw a picture of him with his dad. Its capture read: Melvin Porter with his daughter Bette at the Lake House Project. Bette was unable to stop the tears from falling from her eyes.

I never saw the movie so I don’t know how the storyline works. But if Bette makes a reservation for the future then past Bette has to wait two years. Right? Crazy! I love the story! PPS!
I haven´t seen “the Lake House”, so I´m extremely curious about their meeting and why Bette didn´t make it to the restaurant. PPS.
