Bette pulled her chin into her chest to look down at Tina and brushed Tina’s hair away from her face – she’d gone to sleep.
Bette had finally professed her love and it had gone unheard. She took in a deep breath and sighed as she kissed the top of Tina’s head.
In no time, she too had succumbed to a love-induced slumber.

In the velvet stillness of the night, Tina woke, feeling momentarily lost as one does when waking in a strange place. She turned her head to the side and saw Bette asleep, and remembered then where she was.
Heaven.
Bette had her face inclined towards her, softly illumined in the blue-white moonlight that filled their beachfront room. Tina knew Bette was beautiful, of course she did. But there was something about her as she slept that simply took Tina’s breath away.
A vision.
Out of this world.
Tina stared at her, wallowing in the privilege of watching her sleep. She leaned over and kissed her gently on the forehead before sliding out of the bed and pulling on her robe. She quietly made her way out on to the balcony and leaned against the railing, the smell of the sea-air filling her lungs, the soft hiss of the receding waves on the shore whispering to her, darkness enveloping her.
In a replay of her earlier visit to the balcony, it wasn’t long before she felt two arms slide around her waist, a mouth move in to her neck, a body against her back – the revisiting of a beloved sensation.
“Ok, baby?”, Bette enquired, a little concerned, just as she had been in that exact same spot a few hours before.
Tina ran her hands along Bette’s forearms, feeling safe, protected in their strength.
“Mmmm…I’m fine Bette.”
“Good. Good,” replied Bette. “You know, I was a little worried when I woke up and you weren’t there. I thought maybe you’d…”
“No, Bette,” interrupted Tina turning to face her lover, “I wouldn’t do that. I couldn’t do that.” And looking up into those deep brown, puppy-dog eyes, Tina kissed her.
“Say something to me Bette. Tell me a poem you haven’t told me before.”
As she had done hundreds of times before in her writings to Tina, Bette conjured up words that tugged at her heartstrings…

Clever! Thanks for sharing!
Excellent awesome story. Thank you just beautiful.
Wow…thanks for this story. It really pulled me in. It broke my heart to think that they found each other and shared so much and yet couldn’t be together and then you added that twist to the end. Finding out that they are soul mates who
have never really connected…I’m not sure if that makes it better or worse. I hope you post another story soon. I love your writing style.
Wow! I haven’t commented in some while and all I can come up with is WOW! See, some of us are meant to write & some are meant to read. Awsome…….
OH WELL, TOTALLY NOT WHAT I HAD EXPECTED.. THIS STORY WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE’S I HAVE READ BEFORE AND OF COURSE THIS ENDING COULD ALLOW YOU HAVE A SEQUEL TO WHERE THEY REALLY DO MEET AND OF COURSE WE WOULD UNDERSTAND THE NEED OF SOME DRAMA IN THAT STORY, WITH TINA HAVE TO MAKE HARD DECISIONS BETWEEN BETTE AND HER FAMLIY, BUT I THINK YOU COULD DO IT IN MAYBE FIVE TO TEN CHAPTERS, TOPS. THINK ABOUT IT.
AMAZING!!! Thank you
the end blew me away which makes me think its about two people frm here
Wow wasn’t expecting that at all. You are a very beautiful writer. Your words are breath taking. Hoping you post again..
This made me incredibly sad. I agree with Dainty and hope you will return with a new view of their situation. One that can end happier. I love your story and hope you share another with us soon. Thank you.
Wonderful and emotional but sad story. If only they could be together for real? They are so beautifully written in your story that not having them together is heartbreaking. Thank you for sharing this lovely story of love.
Such a beautiful story. So sad that they couldn’t actually be together. Thanks!
Wow, wasn’t expecting that at the end. Amazing and original. Great job!!
Beautiful……….Best story I’ve read in ages, I was fully into the moments!
Loved your story, so sad they weren’t together for real. But you did leave that open for them when Tina said, “someday baby, some day for real. So now you can come back with their story, For Real. Really enjoyed your writing. Don’t wait too long, we’d love to read more about them. Thanks for sharing.
Please continue writing, such a great ans sad story.
