    My Immortal – 3

    Chapter Three:

I can’t help but stare. I know it’s rude, but Christ- she’s just perfect. There’s something about her. Her beauty, her magic- it’s all alluring, captivating really.

Her jade colored dress just keeps sliding up her thigh and I can’t help but watch. I wonder how far it’s going to slide up before I self-combust. I just want to lay my hand on that thigh and slide it up with the dress. I may have just met her, but I’m half-human, I have needs, wants, and Jesus- do I want her.

The cab pulls to the curb before a rather old looking building. She grabs my hand and leads the way. Something strikes me. Why is that three times she’s touched my hand and I’ve only seen flashes once.

She opens the door with out even touching it. Something I’m totally not used to. I am shocked, but in a good way. It’s awesome. She looks at me and smiles. “I haven’t had to use a key in years.”

I smile politely back. She opens the door and we enter her apartment. I am thrown back. It’s very modern. Everything is done in earth tones. Greens, browns, beiges. In the middle of her living room there is a table, made of glass with a vase full of white tuberose, white xeranthemum, and one red tulip placed in the middle. It was a beautiful arrangement. Eye popping against the neutral colors that spanned through the rest of the room. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them.

She must have seen me starring because I soon felt the warmth of her hand on the small of my back. “Do you like them?”

I shook my head. “I love them. You have a very lovely home.”

She sighed and smiled. “Thank you, do you know what they mean? The flowers.”

Again, I shook my head. I know what kind they are, but the meanings, not so much.

She made a small, melodious laugh. “Well, the xeranthemum means eternal, immortality; the tuberose means dangerous pleasure; and the red tulip means declared love.” She explained. Wow, that was deep.

“Why is there only one tulip though?” I asked curious.

She sighed, deeply. Agonizingly really. “Because I have only ever loved one.”
