“Momma, How Do You Know When….?” (1)

Angelica had just turn sixteen a month ago.  She wasn’t an adult yet but she was quite wise for a sixteen year old.  It may have been due to the fact that she had adults in her life that she could always talk to and to seek advise from.  Her parents Bette and Tina Kennard-Porter moved their family from the west coast to the east coast when she was four years old.  After about a year in New York their close friends slowly one by one started moving to the New York because they missed the Kennard-Porter family so much.   Angelica has never known what it was like to never have these women as a part of her life.   She knew whose advise to take with a grain of salt.  And she knew who she could count on for solid advise.
Growing up she had a few challenging dealing with her otherness issues.   But in a large city such as New York she saw others who shared her otherness.  She wasn’t the only biracial child in school.  She wasn’t the only child who was being raised by a same sex couple.  She found comfort in not being the only one.  She knew that she wasn’t alone in the word.  But being a teenager in it’s self was hard enough.  The question that she was facing at this very moment she didn’t feel that she could share with just anybody.  She knew that she had to talk to her moms.  Beside knowing that they would be honest she knew that they would feel left out if she went to someone else and they found out she couldn’t talk to them about it.
Sundays were family day in the Kennard-Porter household.  Unless pressing business matters took Bette or Tina out of town, the three always spend the day again.  As a rule they did whatever Angelica wanted to do with in reason.  Bette and Tina had their own date night.  And Angelina of course was never invited along.  When Angelina was younger she used to feel left out on their date nights.  Once she got older she understood that they needed time for themselves.  She only understood that after crying on Kit shoulder after being left there for Kit to watch as Tina and Bette went out on a date.  She told Kit that she understood but she still didn’t like it.
