    Chapter 27

It was Wednesday and it was also the day that Bette’s meeting with Jodi was scheduled. It did turn out into a sort of lunch meeting when Jodi agreed to have lunch over at Bette’s office instead of going out. Bette really wasn’t comfortable going out with Jodi but she just needed a couple of weeks more before this show is over.

“Jodi’s here to see you.” The intercom said.

    “Send her in. Thanks!”

    Jodi came in. “Hi Bette!”

“Hi Jodi! Why don’t we seat here. Our lunch will be here shortly.”

“You do like to get straight into business, don’t you?”

“The shorter this is the better.” Bette muttered.

    “What was that?” Jodi asked.

“I said I hope you like chicken. I had chicken sandwiches made for us.” Bette smiled sweetly.

“Those are pretty.” Jodi said pointing to the bouquet of flowers.

“Yes, they are. Tina sent them earlier this week.” Bette explained with a smile.

    “Tina is your girlfriend, right?”

    “Yes, THE one and only.”

    “Right.”

Lunch was served and the meeting went on nicely. It was apparent that the show is right on schedule.

Bette had a few minutes to spare before going to work. She took her camera phone and took a picture of herself.

Tina was so engrossed with work when her computer signaled a new email. She went ahead and opened the email thinking it was one of the people that she was corresponding with earlier. What she saw made her laugh and tear up all at the same time. There was a picture of a puppy dog eyed Bette looking so miserable and all the email said was “I MISS YOU!”.

She picked up her phone and called Bette in the office.

“That was some picture, missy!” Tina said good-naturedly.

    “I’m glad you liked it.”

“Oh babe, I miss you too. I miss you so much. You’re email came at a very good time. I was about to start to pull my hair out. You just saved me.”

“I’m happy to help. I wouldn’t mind you being bald.”

“Shut up. Tell me about your day.”

“I had lunch with Jodi. We’re right on schedule so I should have this show up and running by next month. I really hope there’s no more drama. Oh and I have something to ask you, baby.”

    “What’s that?” Tina asked.

“Do you think you can be my date on the opening night?” Bette asked tentatively.

“Uhm… I dunno, hun. I may be busy with work and everything else. You know.” Tina teased.

“Oh. Are you sure because Jodi offered to be dates on the opening night and I said I wanted to go with you. That is if you’d take me.”

“That bitch did what? Does she have no bone of decency in her?” Tina flared.

    “I was just kidding, Tee.”

    “Sod off, Bette!”

“What? You started it. You were the one who started to tease me by saying that you weren’t going.”

    Tina was silent.

    “Bette?”

    “Yes, baby?”

“Can I be your date on your opening night?”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way, babe.”
