    Chapter 1

Bette Porter was a successful actress in Hollywood, but being a gay actress playing heterosexual parts soon became irritating to Bette.  She was angered that there weren’t more lesbian movies, hell, even lesbian roles.  So, she took things into her own hands.  Bette approached her best friend, Alice Pieszecki, whom she’d met in acting school almost seven years ago, with an idea she’d had for a couple of years.

“Alice, there’s something I want to talk to you about.”

“Geez, Porter, we’re not on a set—you don’t have to be so serious.”

“But Alice, this is important.  It could change our lives.”

                “Okay, you’ve got my attention.”

“I have a proposal for you.”

“Ha!  Porter, we’ve been down that road a LONG time ago and we both agreed we were better as friends.  I’m flattered and I know I’m irresistible but…”

“Alice!” Bette interrupted her, “you nut head, I’m not proposing marriage to you—I don’t have a death wish; I have a business proposal.  You are such a goof sometimes,” Bette said laughing.

“Hey, I resent that,” Alice said, pretending to be hurt, “you would be lucky to be married to me!”

“I know, Alice, I know.  Forgive me.”

“Good, now that you know that and I’ve forgiven you; you can tell me about this thing you’re proposing, which isn’t marriage.”

“Well, as you know there are hardly any lesbian roles and even less movies or shows that are about lesbians.”

“Oh here we go again…you ranting about this.  When are you going to stop talking about this and actually do something about it?”

“Right now, Alice.  I’m going to create a TV show all about lesbians and I want you to help me.  So, what do you say?”

“What do I say?  What do I say?” Alice exclaimed, standing up, “Hell, yeah!  So, when do we get started?”

That had been almost a year ago.  After their conversation, they immediately set the ball rolling.  They approached their other good friend, Shane McCutcheon, a model who sometimes did acting gigs, to help with the show.  She was thrilled about Bette’s idea, and beyond excited about helping.  The three immediately went to work on brainstorming and writing the pilot of the show.  They were so excited they even went on to write a brief outline of the first season or at least what they hoped it would be.  It was easier than they thought to find backers for the show.  Women, and even a few men, were dying to be apart of Bette Porter’s new lesbian project.  Once word got out about the impending show, the publicity for it went through the roof.

Everything seemed to be falling into piece for Bette, Alice and Shane except for a few things, and they were by no means small things.  They had yet to decide on a head director and their cast wasn’t complete.  Bette, Alice and Shane were all playing lead characters, but they just hadn’t seen the right people for the other characters.  They were more than feeling the pressure and began to doubt whether they could pull it off or not.  Bette could see her dream slowly slipping away from her.

    1. I’m proud to be the first to comment of this first chapter because I think you have a great opening here. Brilliant premise. I’ll be waiting for the next :) Keep on, Angel D x

    2. It should be obvious that if its a story about B&T coming together, you write it will read it. Maybe Tina is the director Bette’s looking for, or the lead actress to go with Bette’s character.
