    when I first saw u part 7

    "I’m hungry."

"It’s been,"checking her watch, "wow five hours. I guess you are hungry."

I give her my’ I told you so’ look.

"Okay, okay. I’m feeling a little bitey too."

"I want real food this time," I whine.

    "You’ve been eating real food."

"No. Hamburgers is not real food."

Stopping on the corner, she knocks on my forehead.

"Hello in there. Can someone let my teenage daughter out?"

"Mom, stop," I catch her fist.

    "When did you become Anya?"

"Someone has to be the responsible parent."

    "Ouch," she grabs her chest.

    "Yeah, whatever."

"I’m sure we can find some real food around here somewhere."

Traffic stops and we cross the street.

"Bette? Bette!," a voice calls out.

My mother turns around and goes pale.

    "Tina?" she whispers.

I look and it’s the woman from yesterday.

    *****

The woman jogs up to us.

"It’s really you," she says staring at me.

    Her eyes tear up.

"Mom," I say looking up at my mother.

    "Tina," she repeats.

"Oh my God! I never thought I would see you again," the woman’s voice cracks.

I step closer to my mother and take her hand.

    "Angelica."

The woman reaches out to touch me. I shrink away from her extending hand.

"Mommy," I hide further behind my mother.

    *****

With her chest touching my back, I feel my daughter trembling.

"Tina, please," I begin stopping her from coming closer, "you’re scaring her."

Since calling her name, Tina breaks eye contact with Darnell.

"Scaring her? She’s my daughter. I’m not scaring her."

"Yes you are, Tina, look at her."

Darnell grabs a hold of my waist as Tina shifts her eyes back.

"I . . . never meant to," she stops talking.

    "Mommy," Darnell says again.

I reach behind me and pull her around to my left side, opposite of Tina. I hug her close trying to comfort her as much as I can.

    "It’s okay, Angel."

"Angel? You still call her that?" Tina asks.

"Tina, please. Not now okay. I should," I begin to back up.

"Wait! You can’t. What if I don’t see you again?" she asks grabbing my forearm.

"You will. I promise, you will."

Tina’s grip on my arm is preventing me from walking away.

"No, Bette. You took her away from me. I’m not going to let you do that again," she screams.

    "Let go," Darnell whispers.

"You were going to take her away from me," I counter.

"I would have never stolen her away from you like you did me."

    "Let go. Let go."

    "Yeah right," I scoff.

"Let go. Let go. Let go."

"You know what? I don’t have to ask your permission to look at my daughter or to even talk to her. Angelica?" Tina forcefully says.

"Let go. Let go. Let go," is becoming Darnell’s mantra.

    "Tee."

"My name is Darnell!," she screams and runs off.

We both stand in shock. Then I begin to run after her.

"Tina, no!" I yell stopping her from following me, "You will see her again. I promise. Darnell!"

    1. I just caught up with this story. I love Bette, but in this story I am not liking her at all! I agree with others about Tina’s calmness…many answers are needed. Why in the world should Tina believe Bette will let her see Angelica at a later time. I’m sorry, there is no way I would let Angelica leave my sight again…I would have been stuck to Bette like glue!!! Now is the time for the police to become involved!

    2. now see that wouldn’t of been me… no way… if i was tina i would be screaming and telling anyone to call the police… bette is a kidnapper… no 2 ways about it… and she let bette run off like that… and like sky said… you have your work cut out for you… can’t wait to see how this plays out

    3. If Bette stayed that close to home then surely she knew one day they would run into Tina. This is gonna be some mess. To me Tina was pretty calm about seeing them after 13 years…a little too calm. Had Bette been in contact all those years telling her that they were okay? How will “Darnell” feel when she finds out Bette has taken her from her other mother? Will Tina have Bette arrested? I mean it has been 13 years…is Tina still with Henry? With men? You have your work cut out for you Runawaytee… MORE PLEASE.

    4. It is a little difficult for me to read this story but I enjoy it. I feel bad for Darnell but mostly I sympathize with Tina. I can’t even begin to imagine how she feels. please post more soon.

    5. I respect you as a writer to tell the story as you see fit but I have to agree with sky on this one. This just seems all to calm and fabricated to have me believe in what you are trying to write. So yeah you have a lot cut out for you.

    6. Wow.. yea.. it’s really intense… and I just read back previous chapters… I’m wondering… is Anya Tina look alike? Or… hmm… is it just Tina emailing Bette when Darnell had Bette’s laptop in the hotel room previous nite?
