    Chapter 1

    Why?

"Why do the two of you want to get back together?"

This was probably the most surprising question that the therapist asked Tina and Bette during their first session.  The two women had told Dr. Reeder their history as a couple.  She had listened quietly, taking some notes, but never interrupting.  When the former couple had apparently run down and had nothing else to say at the moment, she had asked the question.

"Why do the two of you want to get back together?"

Dr. Reeder noted similar expressions on Bette and Tina’s faces.  Surprise.  Puzzlement.

"We would like," said Bette, "to provide a home for our daughter where her moms live together in a stable relationship."

"So if there were no Angelica, you would not be here.  You would not, in fact, be interested in forging a relationship."

"Well," offered Tina but then didn’t have any more to add at the moment.

"Many parents," the therapist said when her patients remained quiet, "successfully raise children without living together.  Perhaps we need to work on this.

Now both women had a worried look on their faces.

"Would it be easier if I talked to each of you along at this point?"

    ———————————————–

"I still love Tina and would like to know if I can be in love  with her again," said Bette after Tina stepped out of the office.

“Any idea why you maybe not be in love with her?”

    “She left me.”

“You cheated and it hurt her.”

“But we could have talked. She didn’t have to leave.”

“Do you want to restore the relationship?”

    “Yes.”

“So you want to restore a relationship that sounded pretty dysfunctional to me? Is that what you want?

    “No…….. No. I want a better relationship.”

“What do you think you and Tina should do to achieve that?”

“I’m not sure. That’s why we came here…to see you.”

“Do you want to say anything else before I talk to Tina?”

    ——————————————————-

“I love Bette and I’m in love with her, but I don’t know that I can trust her.”

“Because of the woman with whom she had the affair?”

“Yes,” said Tina quietly, as her eyes began to shine with tears.

    “Have you forgiven her?”

    “I don’t know.”

“Do you want to forgive her?”

“I think so. But I don’t know how.”

    ———————————————————–

The three women ended their session back together in Dr. Reeder’s office.

    1. Pancha, So happy that you’re writing again. You’re a talented writer so, you write and I’ll read. It’s short but you have always been able to express a lot w/a economy of words. PPS. I hope this means that you’re feeling better. :-)

    2. The doctor asks some very trenchant questions. Or is it you that asks the trenchant questions? I’m so glad to see you posting again. You know I’ll be along for the ride.

    3. Welcome back, we have missed you hope all is well in your household. that was short to the point. Let them get over the past and start anew. thanks so much for this post.

    4. Hey Pancha, Great to see you posting a new story with a very intriguing beginning. If only this had been the therapy session at the start on season 3. Now I can’t wait to see where it leads; re-uniting Bette and Tina is my hope. Brilliant writing as ever. Many Thanks, Your Loyal Fan.

    5. I was just warming up when I realized the chapter had ended!!! Does this take place after Candance or after Henry? It would be better after Candance so we can forget about S3. Anyhow, welcome back

    6. Oh Thank God, Pancha, you’re back! I love your level of realism and dialogue between BT and the therapist. I also love the fact that they are seeing a therapist. They SO need help to sort themselves out.
