Incandescent glow: Chapter 13, Confusion
Chapter 13
Shane stared at Carmen, the look in her eyes revealing her inner turmoil. As Carmen searched her face for answers, she saw her own confusion and fear reflected there.
Shane broke first, looking down, like a veil dropping—hiding. She sighed and walked back towards the bed, reclaiming her jeans and sliding into her shirt before sitting down at the foot of the bed, her head in her hands, her elbows resting on her knees. Carmen waited, impatiently shifting from foot to foot. When Shane finally spoke, it was in a very low, subdued tone.
“Look…I’m not really sure what happened. I don’t even know how to explain it to you…or even where to begin.” She ran her hands through her hair, ruffling it further. After a long pause she sighed again. “I need a cigarette. I’m going out back.” As she left the room, she paused at the door. “You can come if you want.”
Carmen looked around the empty room. Still stunned and unsure she got dressed. Sitting on the side of the bed she grabbed a pillow and hugged it tightly to her chest. She took a deep shuddering breath, smelling Shane’s scent on the pillow—sweet with a hint of tobacco underlying the lavender smell of her shampoo. Part of her was so scared that she just wanted to walk out the door, run like hell, and forget she’d ever met Shane McCutcheon. But another part of her was so drawn to Shane—intrigued by her…and so incredibly turned on. Just thinking about the sex they’d had made her insides quiver.
Shane sat on the back steps, smoking–her mind obviously elsewhere. When she felt a presence behind her, she didn’t react. And when Carmen sat down next to her, she scooted a little to give her room. Carmen looked searchingly at Shane’s profile.
“So…are you gonna tell me, or what?”
Shane was so still in that moment, it was as if time had frozen. But then she ground out her cigarette, setting the butt in an already full ashtray sitting on the ground next to her. “I’m a faerie,” she finally said.

Glad to have your story back. Love their interaction. Carmen should find out what the hell her tattoos mean, cause she & Shane nearly blew up the house ;-) Plz post soon. Can’t wait to see what Maeve says about their encounter.
I love this fic! I’m glad you updated this. :) Hah I loved it when Shane explained to Carmen about being a faery lol. And the part about the tattoos was really cool, and when Shane touched them. :D Great update!
the only thing i’m disappointed about this fic is the length. Ü i’m so glad that you updated this fic. Ü btw, i’d be more than happy to be your beta reader if you’ll have me.
Great update… happy to see you back. Shane and Carmen together are sooo hot and with this supernatural dimension added… now almost irresistible. Will Carmen find her tattoos are based on something hidden from her in her family’s past? Please update soon. Thanks.
