    Incandescent glow: Chapter 12, Nameless

    Chapter 12

After a short nap, Carmen got up to get a drink, leaving Shane still asleep on the other side of the bed.  When she got to the kitchen, Jenny was crouched on the floor, picking up shards of broken glass.

“Watch out…I just broke a glass,” Jenny warned her, but it was too late.  Carmen had stepped on a small shard.

“Shit!”  Carmen hopped over to a chair and sat down before removing the sharp piece of glass from the bottom of her foot.  A couple of large drops of blood welled up and dripped on the floor.

“Oh god!  I’m sorry…Let me help you with that.”  Jenny ran to the bathroom medicine cabinet and brought back a bottle of peroxide, cotton balls, some Neosporin, and a Band-aid.

“Thanks, Jenny.  I can take care of it,” she said, taking the medical supplies from her.

“Are you sure?  ‘Cause if you are, I’m going to finish cleaning this up before we have any more accidents,” Jenny said with a nervous smile.

Carmen nodded and smiled reassuringly.  When the floor was cleared, Carmen walked gingerly to the refrigerator, choosing a couple of bottles of beer instead of the soymilk.

“It was nice seeing you again, Jenny.”

“You too…Sorry about the…obstacle course,” she gestured to the kitchen floor.

“It’s OK…no big deal.  I’m going to see if Shane’s up yet.”  Carmen turned to walk back into Shane’s room.

At the same time Carmen was bandaging her foot, Shane had gotten out of bed.  Noticing that Carmen’s things were still there, she got dressed, wondering how she was going to ease her out of the house without offending her.  Thinking about the fucking hot sex they’d just had brought a little smile to her face, not regretting for an instant the decision to bring one of her lovers home.  She was still buttoning her shirt when Carmen returned, handing her a beer.

“Thanks,” she murmured.  “Hey, I think I’m gonna go out.”

With an inscrutable look on her face, Carmen sipped from her beer before setting it down on a nearby shelf.  “I have a better idea,” she began as she took Shane’s beer and set it aside, pushing her back onto the bed.  Kissing her softly, she sat on her lap and outlined the rules of the “game” she’d just made up to keep the illusive woman with her for a while longer.

    1. Whoa! Killer, you mean to tell me that Shane has some of that awful Nameless in her? Ick! Well I hope Carmen’s got the Mojo to keep it at bay at the very least. Get her to Maeve and Merry who know what they’re dealing with, or did it already get Maeve? Anyway, Shane has some ‘splaining to do.

    2. That was a great chapter. I’m a huge Laurell K. Hamilton and the Gentry series fan. You’ve really captured the action of the books and melded it with Shane’s storyline. Please post more soon.
