strong enough to break part 2

Sabrina held the girl firmly to her chest as the body began to shake. She had dressed her in all the clothes that she could find that had scattered in the brush surrounding them. Sabrina knew that they were on the side of a mountain. She knew that they were the only survivors. She knew that is they weren’t found soon, the girl she cradled to her own body wouldn’t make it.

Tina knelt beside Bette calling her name. The circle that had gathered around them closed in tighter.

    “Is she alright?”

    “Is she breathing?”

“People, please give her some room,” Nale yelled squeezing between bodies.

“Baby?” Tina called to her wife stroking the woman’s hair.

    Bette’s eyes fluttered open.

“That’s it baby. Open your eyes.”

“That’s it baby. Open your eyes,” she spoke to the young girl.

Sabrina hadn’t realized she had adopted the affectionate term.

After hours of sitting in the brush, trying to generate enough heat to keep them both warm, Sabrina’s thought began to rebel against the silence that fed her ears. Frightening thoughts of mountain lions finding the pair and feasting on their flesh. She needed sound to chase the dangerous thoughts away, so she began talking. Telling her unconscious mate of the excitement of beginning her residency.

“I know I’m going to be surprise to many of them. The complicated but intelligent words coming from the mouth of a package that looks sixteen,” Sabrina smiled.

“***** I would be, too. But they’ll get over it. Everyone does.”

She fell silent imaging the shocked faces of her supervisors.

“Hhhmmmm,” the girl in her arms moaned.

Sabrina glanced down and saw the girls eyebrows knit together.

“That’s it baby. Open your eyes.”
